Well too fuckin bad. The gals are different, the banners are different, the title is different, the colors are different just because the "look" is the same then thats just how the world works. Look at the new Accord Coupe and The Mercedes CLK, from the back if someone were to see them they could not tell them apart and you dont see them in court.

All the new tgps look the same, I could think of at least 20 urls that look the same. Just because you have used that layout for a long time doesnt mean that you are the soul owner of the "IDEA" you cannot copyright that, otherwise reality tv would not exist nor would anything be innovated.

If you cant stand the heat then get out of the kitchen

This is not a lashing just my :2 cents: since most ppl feel a tendency to suck up as if they have no opinion at all.

Its not a "nice" move from Marks part but no one said the world had to be a fair place.

Why do people always start talking about court when someone expresses displeasure at being copied? I'm personally sick as hell of people being a wee bit over-inspired by my stuff and not wanting to give credit where it is due, but I'm not about to sue everyone (okay, some people, but not everyone) who ever ripped off some part of something I put out. I'd be peeved about this thing if I were The Hun, but I wouldn't waste a lot of time that could be spent on something productive making a legal battle out of it. If I were a car industry person, I might have an opinion on Honda or Mercedes, based on discussions at tradeshows or whatever, even if there was no court case.

The guy is so lacking in talent and business acumin he does that. I think it will do more harm than good.

Hun, don't worry about feeder fish, they are too small to do any damage.

It's incredible how many ass kissers come on this board when The Hun spoketh....

Oh my God, I can't believe someone is willing to volutarily make this much of an ass of himself on a public board... If you don't like my fucking rules, don't fucking submit. Or in plain English: if you don't like my rules, don't submit. How hard is that?

I don't tell people they shouldn't use certain sponsors, I don't tell people they shouldn't use a certain host, I ONLY tell people that if you DO you that certain host or sponser that I (read: me, the owner of MY site) am not going to link to it.

Really, some people definately make it a hobby to make 'emselves look very good by trying to bring someone down. KRL is an example of that, this guy is trying the same thing. Nice try guys... doesn't work though. Stop these posts please. It doesn't add a single thing to the discussion.

Anyway, I know Pat from the early early days when we worked on the first ever picturepost and stuff like that. He lived in Luxembourg at the time, which was not too far a ride from where I live. Lost his info when he moved to the US though, didn't have too much contact with him after that (hell, he got hooked up with Mark's Bookmark, so obviously we couldn't be friends anymore ;-)

It's cleared up know though, problem gone. Thanks Pat!

Thats just minimal html. How can you call it a copy ? Every page in 1995 looked exactly like it.

Feel free to steal my super-converting enter link

andi_germany 05-10-2003 03:12 AM

If a design is stolen it is theft. No matter what design it is or how bad anyone might find it. The suprising part is that people think it's The Huns design that makes the site successful. The simple solution is that The Hun has been around forever has tons of Bookmark traffic. I think the simple design lets the site load fast and keeps the bandwidth down but it is possible to do a low bandwidth design without stealing.

Dude, I patented that a week ago. I'll see you in court.

But in all seriousness...today someone I did some galleries for was accused of "stealing" the design on those galleries...um, they were basic tables with no graphic headers or anything...just tables, for cryin' out loud...no-brainer, pump-out-fifty-an-hour with an h1 tag for the title...I would really love to face my accuser...anyway.

The page in question on this thread was clearly a copy. The Hun's layout may not be particularly groundbreaking or innovative, but it's easily recognizable.

PowerCum 05-10-2003 03:22 AM

It could be a joke, but...

I copied your design some time ago (when I started my first TGP and had 30 hits per day from google). I only copied the gallery layout (descriptions + links, no colours, no banners, just a lots of galleries + descriptions dump). This way I got very nice google ranking in less that 2 months run. After that changed to my current stupid useless layout, but still get some nice google and yahoo traffic.

I think he is doing the same, with the only difference that he copied the entire design instead a part of it.

His main page has lots of links. There is a limit where SE bots start "thinking" the page is just a spam dump, so I think he is just trying to boost his google traffic.

Even that, he could be more creative with the text. Coplete copoies are OK, but surfers go confused and some time after that they become angry because of site mismatch.

Most simple html generator programs created layouts like that way back..
TITLE ( usually big Times New Roman font )
HR tag
sub title or intro
HR tag
Another paragraph
List of links
Email

Man this takes me back.. remember Hot Dog ? Hot Dog Pro ? Those were hot.
http://www.sausage.com/

Remember HotMetal ?
