I keep telling you guys just use a phone to produce content
Yes, the pictures are nice BUT ALL are either exteriors or daytime in in rooms with big windows. I would like to see a comparison at night or lit interior. Yes, you can somewhat zoom but since there are no lenses to speak of, you are just shooting everything wide or with distorted close ups...
Also the extra "gack" you need can run into thousands... BUT hey what do I know, I still shoot on an old RED..

shot in the almost dark, a bit OFF because I didn't use a stand

OK good, now take the same night picture with a standard "lens" and then zoom in 50 % and 80 % and you may have me convinced at least for the exteriors
that's because you use an iphone. iphone is no comparison to a samsung camera

Really? I stuck with iPhone out of habit, but the new Samsung is better than DSLR? I read some analysis that said that iPhone was comparable, but I'm sure there are pros on here that know for sure.

for years I've shot against iphones with my samsung phone because many many models have iphones. iphones produce shit images comparatively. my daughter has a new iphone, she is SO IMPRESSED with the camera because now the images are similar to a samsung, not the newest samsung, just a samsung.
you'll never get DSLR performance out of 'cell phone' lenses however most people can't get DSLR performance out a DSLR and most people can't see the difference between a DSLR and a phone. and if the images are done correctly in post, shooting the proper subject I can't either. most certainly for facebook/twitter pics.
so for 95% of people a phone shoots as good as a DSLR.
No zoom ( or different lenses) produces a "rank amateur" content. Good for skateboarding gags and exterior family shots. Not for real productions.
We usually use 30 to 150 mm zoom lens, plus a fix set of primes
But thanks for the info.
I had a 2 17-35 2.8, 3 24-70 2.8, 70-200 2.8, 105 2.8, 35 1.4, 58 2.8, 60 macro 2.8 and a 200 2.0. I was a professional photographer for 30 years. I lit film and TV for almost 20 years, local 728, international 600 and DGA for a few years. all studio except maybe 3-5 location shots. game shows, talk shows, sitcoms and infomercials. I worked in maybe 6-7 films in that time. (running man, father of the bride, jack frost, alien 3 or 4, the one with Winona Ryder and I lit live news for about 4-5 years at a number 2 market... i.e news in LA. didn't really care for TV or film to be honest about it... don't really care for the people

I also have mainstream production history, not with big studios as you, but as an independent. Maybe you could have gaffed some of my movies So, we have some understanding in common

Appreciated. I understand the DSLR fairly well, obviously not at your level. As some have stated here, the lenses and accessories available are what can make the difference. I note that ALL the Getty (many of whom just got let go) guys still have DSLR and many have the latest models, so there must be at least $10k worth of value there.

I hope to get another DSLR, the Nikon D6 with some nice glass, long and short primes and maybe 1 zoom... my fav to shoot is the 'face'. have 'art' stuff in mind and I might shoot some weird 'david lynch' vids with long glass
