I have no pets but my mother has two new male cockatiels (noisy worthless messy stupid birds) & my sister has a female Chihuahua (she had her before the Taco Bell dog was popular).

My fiance and I rescued two pit bulls from being euthanized. The sweetest two dogs ever, we love them very, very much. But they are the biggest pains in the asses ever. Thank god we are the ones that adopted them, cuz anybody else in their right mind would have taken them back to the pound.

If they get anywhere near the vicinity of other dogs, they will try to kill it. We have had to nail our windows shut, due to them jumping through the screen to attack a dog walking outside one time. Horrible scene. When my fiance walks them we, literally, have harnesses and chains instead of leashes to make sure they don't get at other dogs. They freak out and usually bark when they hear or see ANYTHING outside. Drives us nuts. Their idea of play time is play fighting, so we are constantly hearing snarling and fighting and have to break it up, no shit, at least 30 times a day. I could go on forever, but you get the idea.

BUT, they are the most lovable, loyal dogs I have ever had. They are very funny (crack us up all day and night) and absolutely love people, especially kids. They are adorable. The girl we named Tigger, cuz she's always jumping around, and the boy is named Pooh Bear, cuz he's just a big cuddly bear. We don't have company around them but, not because they might hurt them (Pit Bulls hate other dogs NOT people) but because we can't get them to leave them alone. They can be very embarassing. They are always trying to kiss their face, jump on their laps (Pooh Bear is 85lbs, not exactly a lap dog) and other horribly annoying things. Obedience school proved useless.

Pit Bulls are naturally not good guard dogs like people assume. They may snarl and growl visciously if someone is at the door, and in that way they are good cuz who the hell is going to break into a house with that on the other side of the door. But, once inside the only thing they will do is try to lick them to death (unless they have a dog LOL)

Now most of you are going "what the fuck are you doing keeping these dogs?"....they are our babies. If I had it to do over again, I admit I would probably have adopted a different breed, people generally hate this breed, our neighbors don't like them, they are totally misunderstood and people tend to look down on us for having them. But now that we have them we love them so much that, as you can tell, we'll put up with just about anything cuz we could never give them away.

BTW, I forgot damage to our house when they were puppies:

2 couches tore to shreds
kitchen floor totally ripped up
kitchen drawers and cabinets chewed to pieces
Paint scratched off just about everything
Carpets destroyed
Too much to list
We estimate at least $10,000 worth of damage.

We are insane, we know, but now are passionate about this breed. We cannot stand people misusing this breed and training them to fight, or attack people, or even clip their ears to make them look more viscious, it pisses us off to no end.

If a pit bull attacks a person the animal is killed when it should be the bastard owner that ruined such a fantastic dog.

I've got five cats (Daisy, Purdy, Frankie, Enstein, and Edison)...and a couple more who live in the back yard. My girlfriend has a beagle/terrier named Piccolo who I get along with great. We both have a big nose and a good sense of humor.

We have a half newf, 1/4 shepard-1/4 wolf. 160+ pounds of pure love if you can handle him on your lap. lol But he can reach up and lick people in the face that are 6'2 anyhow. Stands 6'4 when we hold him up. Score is pitbulls 0 dawg 3. Quite a few of our neighbors have pits that do NOT like anyone whether man or beast. He loves people and even tolerates our cat Bubba acting like *he* is a dawg too! He plays with any animal including the squirrels until that animal acts viscious and then it's oops.

I have 2 cats, one who will only drink water out of a running tap, I had 3 hamsters, but the cats ate them last week, 1 dog, A King Charles Spanial who is digustingly obese, and a small collection of sea monkeys. The sea monkeys are the way to go, their clean quiet, and only need feeding about once a month. There's just something special about amoebas.

No animals but the girlfriend loves to be led around on a dog leash. Especially in public.

I cant take em to the beach anymore and whenever i get in my truck they jump in wanting a ride ..but its too scary with other peoples dogs!!

One is named Prowler and the other is Seven..
There just two big ole lap dogs..Always sleep in our bedroom or any room we are in they have to near us.....

And DONT GO TO THE BATHROOM ..They are just waiting for fresh water....YUCK!!!

I have 4 black labs (one's half border collie). If you can get past the first 2 years they usually calm down. My big one Rascal (125 pounds my fat baby) ate the siding off of my mom's house, my prom picture, and my corsage I got at prom. Savannah (the half border collie) ate the living room carpet. Midnight and Magic are both 10 years old and very well behaved. Except Midnight learned to open the fridge door and help himself.

I have a 40 pound german shepard/mutt mix.. he looks like a german shepard that someone cut the legs off of. I also have 2 retarded siamese cats that think they are dogs too.

I have a black cat named Loki and a Pit Bull named Pagan.

I have a 3 legged German Shepard. Recued from the pound and he kicks ass . I had to bail him out from the pound last week for killing the farmers chickens ! No joke !

And yes people warp pits pretty often. But they *were* bred to run cattle not be house pets. I've had four come after me for opening our drive gates. Thankfully our dawg is the protector and the first time the hubby was outside or I'd have been chewed up. I guess the thing to remember is when they DO go after someone be prepared to pay thru the nose. There just was a couple on tv that argued how loving their pits were right after they killed one man and seriously maimed a woman. Their arguement was the male wouldn't have attacked the man had the man not tried to defend himself from the female. They go to sentancing soon. Needless to say the dogs served theirs.

I have never been against ANY animal until I had them come after me. 4 dogs from 4 houses. Not all of those people can be warping their animals. Its inbred and I'll never believe otherwise now. I'm just glad the first one wasn't as quick as some. The hubby got off with one bite before the dog left this world. Sorry to sound so negative but I'm glad as heck that dog (or the others) aren't with us anymore. Some breeds just aren't meant to be in the city around lots of people and other animals. BTW, every one of those owners were arrested and charged with a HUGE amount of charges, from menacing to losing control of deadly animals. One guy paid 25k in fines.

We've got two dogs - Jack & Jack.

The first Jack we rescued from the animal shelter when he was 8 weeks old and named him Jack. It just seemed to fit.

The second Jack was 1 year old and we rescued him also. He was already named Jack so there was nothing we could do. Besides, I think it's fun to go walking the dogs and have someone stop me to ask about them.

"What's that ones name?"

"Jack", I say.

I'm really disappointed with your post. You act as if pit bulls are the only dogs inbred. As a matter of fact according to the AKC the estimated highest number of "overactive and inhuman breedng" was Labradors.

It is not inbreeding alone. It is not bad owners alone. It is a combination of bad factors. Poor breeding (like most "pure breds nowadays), poor owners and poor training.

BTW, your facts are a little off...the pit bull is a bull dog terrier mix that was bred in the late 1800's in England for the specific role to fight others of their species... not to run cattle. The reason they were bred this way was for their muscular build, territorial nature towards others of their species and, most importantly, their undying devotion to man. They were willing to fight (or do anything) to the dying end if their owner told them to.

I would suggest that it is not the breed of dogs that you live around that have attempted to attack you (which is horrible) but possibly the people who own them.

As far as "some breeds just aren't meant to be in the city around a lot of people"...they have always been in cities, they could never survive without humans.

This is no different than Dobermans in the 70's or German Shepards in the 80's. This is a media darling. A fantastic story that everyone jumps on.

How could you let media hysteria or isolated incidents in one area (your area), one environment, one situation totally skew your view on a whole species? You can't possibly understand how deeply this affects me, not being an owner of this breed. We rescued these pups outside the shelter because in Los Angeles, you cannot adopt Pit Bulls, if they go into the pound they are euthanized with no chance of adoption. The woman outside was begging anybody to take these pups because she knew their fate.

This is not due to reality, this is due to media exxageration and, frankly, to comments like yours. There are more dog attacks from 58 other breeds in this country than pit bulls. They are 59th on the list. Other breeds such as collies, labs, cocker spaniels, chows or those cute little shitzus bite and cause injury to humans more frequently than pits. But, that doesn't sell more papers does it?

Sorry might have the terriers off in my thinking of why one or another was bred. But the facts remain that pits inflict more harm and damage when they do attack compared to other dogs. You said it your self. They were bred to fight and the human in most cases just can't fight on their levels. The hubby is just crazy and waded right in before the dog got to me and thankfully the fence was a sturdy object to use when he did.

We 'knew' the one family that owned one of those dogs. They treated him very well and had him from a pup. He just got out and got over another neighbors fence and in to our yard. Thankfully our dawg was in the kitchen and saw me get cornered in the yard. I had made no moves toward that dog, didn't even know it was in the yard. Ours tore a 300 dollar storm door apart to get out.

I meant also that they have no business being IN the cities. They should be out where they aren't exposed to alot of other humans or animals. When houses are 10 foot apart, and 500 people to the block... Point being is they ARE territorial but will adopt whatever territory they are in to defend even when not being bothered.

And yes all dogs attack and bite, but few have the pure power that pitbulls do. Our dog loves to run across the street to see the elderly lady when shes on her porch. (She invariably has some snack to toss him) Yep illegal to allow him loose but he *is* military trained and responds instantly to my husband. A little girl was jumped by a dog (oops a pit) down the street and our dog went after it. He kept that little girl from being mauled. Yes that one didn't come thru either so I should have said pits 0 dawg 4. Point being with that is the instant my old man hollered our dog was off and running and then stopped the instant he was commanded to. Pits do NOT respond to verbal commands except to attack. Why do you think they are NOT used as hunters for the military? Once their on switch is clicked there is NO off.

It worries *me* that you bring up that your animals would tear thru screens to go after innocent animals. Sounds too much like that couple that are still defending their killer dogs even while their personal freedom is now going to be in question. Ours may be dangerous, and could turn like any animal, but he was trainable and with the large windows we have in some of our rooms... He's never even bumped against them even when another animal is on our porch. Ours is a purely defensive animal purchased for his breeding and size as well as the newf love of family. (His neck is too big for pits to get ahold of. lol)But its the better option over shooting at them when they do charge. We hit one in the alley one day as he was tearing up a guy just walking down the alley too. I was sick for days but it was a darn sight better than some one just walking down an alley getting mauled.

They are too common and have no business in most peoples homes. We have probably 12 pits to the block here and not all are mistreated or taught to attack. All told in 4 years we have had 8 brushes with them in one bad way or another BAD way. Odds are against them all coming from bad homes. The dog wardens carry side arms and shoot them if they even think they are dangerous. As well they should. (ANY animal acting dangerous when they are loose shouldn't be played with)

I feel bad about them getting killed when it happens but I'd feel alot more sorry for the owners if one DOES get me. Not financially either. My husband has a long memory. You said it, its the owners and he'd be dealing with the so called masters, after the dog.

I guess you just need to have one coming straight for your throat April. 5 feet off the ground and ready to rip you apart only to have it disappear from your line of sight and hear a sickening thump. I felt badly but I felt a D*MNED sight better than if it had completed that jump and gotten me. If I can't even open our gates to leave the property then its war on them as far as *I* am concerned. They have been declared dangerous animals in our city and are treated thusly when they corner you. Keep em in the house or get rid of them. Its just if it's me or the dog... The dog goes. You might want to research the per capita damage in dog attacks some time. Pits are not being unfairly picked on at all. In deaths and serious maimings, they out rank all other breeds put together. I'm not talking about the general nip or biting of a stranger (in the house like the UPS man) either. I believe I'd feel more comfortable with a rattlesnake loose in the house. They don't attack unless cornered but are every bit as deadly.

Enuff of the gruwsome stuff! We have a cat named Bubba. 12 ponds of pure spiteful black cat that thinks he's a dog. Rarely purrs or meows. Loves peanuts, hates cashews. Likes Italian dressing on salads over ranch. Eats all sorts of odd stuff. Begs like a dog too. He can stretch his neck what seems like 2 feet and does the prairie dog manuever (sitting on his back legs with his front paws up) He likes to see what he might jump on when he wants on the bed or couch etc. lol

We aren't positive but think he may be the love child of jaYMan and Headless! We're gonna get a hamster soon too. Easier to get along with than kids. lol Altho the cat DID want a playstation for xmas........

Here's my dog Max, he's 9 months old, he's part Pitbull and either part German Sheppard or Husky, the people that gave him do us, don't really know. He has German Sheppard color, but then he has the Husky blue eye, so I don't know. Anyways, here he is -

When I was a teeneager, we had a dog, a dalmatian. Very, very cute. We went with her to exibitions and she won a lot of prices.
After she died I first got a rabbit from my girl-friend. I called it bunny (Every man should have a bunny at home *lol*). It was really a horror-pet, cute and sweet to me, but couldn't stay in the cage and therefore running arround in the appartment the whole time. But the evel thing was, that this small pet was jealous like hell, it even pissed on one of my girl-friends....
Later I had a cat (will you guess?), Pussy.

Right now I remark, I only had female animals....hmmm, but hey, guys, not what you think!! ;-)

BTW about my "screen" incident, it was never my position that they were not dangerous to dogs, they are deadly unfortunately, which is why we don't get to have a "normal" experience with our dogs. No letting 'em run wild in the park and so one. But, my position about people still stands.

Thats a shame April. having two animals that need to run but you don't dare to take them out and do it. Sort of one sided selfishness to not run an animal that needs the exercise. But as you said they are dangerous to other animals. And therefore dangerous to their owners as well. How many people do you think would let your dogs jump theirs and not try to help their own pets. And guess what happens next....If you don't believe that then you'd better call any animal trainer and ask them.

But to keep an animal penned is cruel. Especially the folks that use those stupid dog cages to prevent them from chewing their belongings up. (Not saying anyone here does ) I'd rather stand the hurt of losing an animal before I'd make it live cooped up with no going to a open area and just letting them run for an hour or so. Its just good for their health and well being. Buy a hamster. They only need a wheel or tunnel!

My pit bull is named "Pagan" but also answers to "baby" as in "Where's my baby?" and he comes running. Since he was a pup he's been babied, so it fits (I'm one of those people that eats generic food but feed the dog the expensive stuff)

It's true that Pit Bull are an aggressive breed, but they aren't vicious by nature.

Today my friend brought over her new puppy, of course I was careful to make sure Pagan was peaceful, and he was. He's never been aggressive toward another dog or cat. He doesn't like men that he doesn't know, other than that he's a bundle of love.

Pit Bulls are powerful animals, as are Rottweilers (which I've also had) and many other breeds.

There are no bad dogs, only bad owners.

My girlfriends daughter has dalmation stuff everywhere around the house thanks to Disney. I tell you I've come across a handful of those dogs in my lifetime and everyone of them were crazy. Mean as hell. Is that just because of the owner training them or is it their temperment?

Warphead, yeah Pitbulls are pretty calm dogs. Max is pretty peaceful, you should meet his mom, she's one of the nicest dogs you could know. I guess that it all goes to how they're brought up. If you teach the dog to be nice, it will. Teach it to be mean, it sure will. They are pretty powerful dogs like you say, Max is only 9 months old and he has some power.

People told me that since Max has 2 different eyes that that's a sign that he's gonna be a mean dog, but he's not mean, he barks at strangers, but he's a big baby.

No doubt Slick, around 6 months Pagan got ahold of some fabric on the end of my couch and pulled it across the room. (It wasn't so funny then.)

Especially no doubt on the stuff you said about environment. Dogs are like kids, they learn what they're taught.

BTW = I went to school with a girl had one brown eye and one blue. She wasn't mean.

I said in my first post that they get walked...everyday, without fail. They get more than enough exercise. We also have a huge house that they run around in all day.

My dogs are the happiest dogs ever, although they are not the easiest to raise, their lives are full of love, exercise and play. All day, every day, without exception.

And also, they are never penned, they are house dogs. Please do me a favor and stop assuming that you know what is going on in my household or what my babies are like or how we live our lives.

I'm assuming nothing. Given your babies track records with trashing things and then looking at the probabilities of them going off on someONE instead of some other dog...

I'll leave it alone. Just abit ago watched those people who had two harmless 'babies' being led in to court in full chains. Charged with murder and her as an accessory to the fact. Hopefully you never find out what thats like. Didn't notice anyone else here that have pits or rotts mentioning theirs crashing screens or eating couches tho.

Anytime an animal of any breed shows that much agression and then fails a training program is more than likely prone to violence. Hope you keep them muzzled when you go out. You do have the right to have them for now. I wasn't trying to offend you April. Really. I understand how you get attached to pets. lol I am myself even tho this cat basically hates me. Except feeding time! Dawg just loves everyone until his collar goes on and then its on duty to him.

Anyone have one of those iguanas? I've heard they are pert neat as far as reptiles go. Never have seen one myself bt heard they are like 8 foot long when fully grown (with tail)

I was in the pet store the other day and they had a huge Lizard but I don't think he was for sale. They're pretty expensive things to purchase.
On another note I watched the Crocodile Hunter other night (I think it was a special on TV) get the run put on him by one those Komoto Dragons. Chased him up a tree. Man that guy is insane, what a great show!

I have two german shepards ( outside guard dogs but love them to death and at most they bark and growl, I have never trained them to bite ) and a jack russell for inside. Does anyone else have a jack russell? My vet thinks my JR has a seizure disorder cuz he acts a little strange, like there is a fly buzzing around his head or something. But no drooling fits...eyes rolling or anything like that...
