what type of content management are you looking for? for page content or for image gallereis, etc?

There is some pretty good off the shelf things that can handle most of that...some might need some tweaking, but don't let someone talk you into writing a custom one for you (unless you are doing something off the wall). Most can be tweaked to work with what you want.
