Tell your "friend" that it wont install the servicepack if its a "known" warez version. The servicepack includes a list of CD-keys used in the known warez versions, when you try to install it, it says "blahblah . somthing wrong with Licens-ID blah blah..."

There is a place on www.technet.com (ms site) where you can check if the customer have a warez version

Go Into regedit and check the following:

Root: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion

check these values:
"RegDone"=""
"BuildLab"="2600.xpsp2.021108-1929"
"ProductId"="55274-640-1822465-23273"

Pay attention retard - I said a "KNOWN" warez version - what part of "KNOWN" dont you understand?

The user could also "slipstream" the servicepack into the system, and thereby skip the check (and backup) but that is not what he ask

It depends if he used ones of the more common cd keys when he installed xp. If he used the key generator to get his cd key there will be no problem with sp1. There is also a way to change the cd key used when you first installed xp..just search google.

If the windows was originally installed with one of the common cd keys that was going around when XP first came out, chances are SP1 will fuck all up.
There's a little program out there that can change the key on an already installed XP allowing you to load SP1 without a problem.
