Hurricane? POP-TARTS Hoarding!

Now I’ve heard everything. Strawberry Pop-Tarts in an emergency.

Many stores in Florida and up the coast have run out of water and toilet paper. The pictures of carriages full to the top with water, eggs, bread, liquor and toilet paper are posted everywhere.

But Strawberry Pop-Tarts? Why that flavor? Why not regular snacks like chips, cookies, Twinkies and popped popcorn?

I hope y’all who are in the path as of now have supplies and shelter if needed.

During a hurricane we’ve lost power for a week. Electric stove and my parents bought a generator after the last storm. That was at least thirty-five years ago.

Frozen food is generally a sodium-laden mess. Healthy meals are lacking in flavor and amount of food.

The reason is in the article.

Pop-Tarts were on Walmart's emergency merchandise list when Hurricane Florence pummeled the Carolinas in 2018. The company's corporate website says that more than 350,000 boxes were sent to stores in the region in advance and after the hurricane.

You can eat Pop-Tarts without toasting them in the event that the power goes out during a storm the toaster pastries were specifically created to be shipped and stored without refrigeration. They are also non-perishable and made to last even if they are sitting in your cabinet or on store shelves for a while.

I would also guess is that it's a quick and easy snack to give to terrified children.

I get the convenience part of it but crackers and spray cheese aren’t being depleted. Giving a kid a snack is ten minutes of relief and then you have another ten-plus hours to distract them. Your way gives you a fat, diabetic and lazy child.

Kids react to your reaction during bad times. Don’t let them dwell on danger but teach them how fun it is without lights and how people survive with families in different times.

I would guess poptarts would be great food to have an emergency - You don't need to cook them.

Just like soup.... You can eat soup cold. We keep a ton of soup on hand "just in case", but we also have sterno too.

I would say it is the water table more than greed. You don't see basements in New Orleans either.

frozen vegetables are not 'sodium-laden' mess. and if they are you are buying the wrong ones.

also worthless in a survival situation as if there is no power how long is that going to stay frozen? generators are a bandaid and short sited, using them for a freezer isn't a good idea. any dried foods work and whether they have 'sodium-laden' ingredients in it or not means absolutely nothing when it comes to staying alive now does it?

Frozen food like TV dinners and the like. Frozen veggies can be great if not in a sauce. I get veggie-only bags or boxes or did when I shopped for myself. All those chemical preservatives are man-made garbage and I didn’t grow up eating frozen veggies or veggies.

If I have no power for a week, I can survive without frozen veggies. I don’t think a week without power comes close to staying alive. I’d just run to the supermarket and grab a bag of frozen veggies and ask them to nuke part of it for me. If they can make meals at the coffee and lunch counter, they can nuke my veggies.

Hell, I’d visit the local hospital and ask them to nuke my veggies!!

Grab a metal bowl. Toss in some crumpled newspaper and some matches. Light it and stick a fork in each end of the PopTart. Hold it over the flame to toast and heat it until the frosting begins to melt.

I’m assuming that PopTarts are pre-cooked and the dough isn’t raw. Toasting them just makes them crispy and warm.

Sugar free PopTarts would be a great idea but the carbs would be worse than the sugar. Anything that tastes good is always bad for you!

I went to the Dollar Tree today for one thing. Bought eight but the frozen food cases were nearly empty. I’m wondering who bought frozen sliced bologna in case of a storm. The vanilla wafers I’ve bought were almost gone and the no-name soda cans at 6/$1 were gone. I don’t know if they ran out because of the storm or ran out because of Welfare checks and SSI coming in this Tuesday.
