He would have been great at that part. Christian Bale was fantastic, but Cruise is the guy I envisioned when I was reading the book (which is 10 times more fucked up than the movie).

Agreed. Bale was great, but there's no doubt that Cruise is a great actor too. Never read the book though - will have to check it out.
