Life can change in a moment

My father in law has had a rough life. He was in his late thirties when he was in a work accident and broke his hip. Since then he's had problems being addicted to pain killers and a drinking problem. The past month he's had some health problems including AFIB, circulation issues, and problems with his feet.

I saw him on Friday and he was doing good.

Sunday he fell, his wife couldn't get him up, and he was having trouble breathing. She called 911 and off to the ER they went. He has five broken ribs, punctured his ribs, is bleeding from the mouth, and cat scan revealed a "mass" by his heart. At 2am this morning his kidneys both failed.

My wife is flying home this afternoon (we were just last weekend).

My point is.... Holy shit it's amazing how quickly things can go south.

That must have been one heck of a fall to break 5 ribs and puncture a lung.

              Good luck to him.

How do I explain this.... He wasn't in good health to begin with and was "frail". He was always very skinny. I don't know exactly how he fell.

My wife just flew down to be down there with him.

Hope he pulls through mate. A few weeks a go my older next door neighbours asked me to come into theyre garden to help setup the Gazeebo. Had a chat with them afterwards. Next morning he had a stroke whilst watching Tv. Dead 24 hours after that. Lifes fucking precious

                      Sorry to hear, that's rough.
Lost my aunt a few months ago and grandma the month after. Undetected cancer in both, it claimed them pretty quickly. Only had a few days with aunt, grandma about half a month. They went from looking normal to almost instant skin an bones in such a short time.

                      Wishing for the best.

                        All the best to him.

I talk with people all day who go through sudden life-changing situations and it's amazing how many people don't have fall-back plans for when stuff goes south. People just don't want to embrace and acknowledge their mortality.

So it seems they took him off of oxygen and now they are "making him comfortable". That's not a good sign. But we are still hoping.

It's amazing how something as simple as a fall and a few broken ribs can rob someone of their life.

Sorry; broken ribs are significant, especially if it punctures a lung.

Sorry for your loss, the elderly falling is all too common and often leads to hospitalization and death when they can't recover from their injuries.
