I'm sorry to hear that. I lost a friend at 14 to a drunk driver. While it's not nearly as bad as losing a parent, I understand that feeling of them just suddenly being gone that rips you apart. I hope you have been able to find peace with it.

He was only sentenced to 5 years for vehicular manslaughter and if I recall correctly, served only 2 before being released.

The friend I lost was on his way home from a movie with his brother, his brother's girlfriend, and another friend. A drunk hit them, the car caught fire and the only survivor was the brother's girlfriend (she was seriously injured). To make it worse, the boys' dad was a firefighter and was one of the first responders on the scene.

At least the guy that caused the accident got more seriously punished. He was sentenced to 20 years. I'm not sure how much he actually served.

I can't imagine that experience ... Seeing your child like that. Thats quite literally the worst thing a person could experience.

I agree about the leniency. Back then it was almost a joke to drive drunk. I remember them .along laws after taking licenses away for one year then three and then ten and thinking how stupid that is as it only takes once to really destroy a lot of lives.
