Win XP Home or Professional?

Which edition is right for me?

- my LAN is small (2 to 4 computers)
- I never work away from my desk
- but I do need to protect sensitive data, and who doesn't?

Is it worth the extra bucks for Professional? How important is this Encrypting File System (EFS)?

Pro. Home version has shitloads of bugs, while the pro version is for the most part a much more stable OS than Home.

You should be fine with the Home version and a good firewall. I have pro, but I never even use the extra pro features.

I would never recommend Home to anyone. Professional on a fast cumputer can be really nice sometimes just like Win2k. FreeBSD or Debian G/L is some really reliable and fast free alternatives OTOH. The choice is yours but stay off Home ed.

Almost all in favor of Pro.

For all those with experience using Home, what are the bad points about Home? It crashes? (For real???) I have never seen Home before, but I know that Pro never crashes.

We run all of our PC's on Pro now and have no problems. XP Home is just a toy version.

Nobody seems to like Home...

Can I get opinions from both sides:

1) Home users: Tell me about crashes.
2) Pro users: Tell me about the Encrypting File System (the only plus side I can see to using Pro over Home in exception to using it on large networks and maybe the crashing problem with Home, if it exists.)

I have home on my PC and it works just fine. Mostly. Crashes are rare but tend to be severe. You get the usual windows buggy shit but that isn't too bad. My Mac with OSX is far more stable.
