Alaska isn’t exactly known for it’s restaurant scene. When it comes to pizza though, it has a major claim to fame: Moose’s Tooth Pub and Pizzeria, the highest grossing independent pizza restaurant in the United States of America.

Moose’s Tooth, located in the 300,000-person city of Anchorage, has annual sales of around $6 million. Owned by two rock climbing friends, Rod Hancock and Matt Jones, Moose’s Tooth opened in the late 1990s. Hancock had a passion cooking, and Jones had a thing for home brewing, but neither had restaurant experience, according to Pizza Magazine Quarterly.

Turns out Alaska was a good place for them to get into the restaurant business. Moose’s Tooth was a hit almost as soon as it opened, Jones told Alaska Daily News, and the pizzeria has expanded four times. The duo has also expanded their brand with a theater, grill, and brewery. Drunk moose aren’t the only things hungry up in Anchorage after all

If you make it up to Anchorage for a pizza and beer, expect a long wait. Judging from Moose’s Tooth’s success, though, it’ll be well worth it.

Not a big surprise to be honest. Rural areas often have some of the highest sales vs bigger cities because it's often the only place to go and they have no competition.

There is a rural gas station in the middle of no where about 30 miles from me and it's about 30 miles to the next gas station anywhere else as well. It's in a small town called Geneva, FL. That gas station used to be the highest gross sale station for their entire chain in the state of FL. Since then a 2nd gas station has been built which ironically has a pizza shop in it. I bet that Pizza shop does really good business.

On my ebay sales most of my clothing sales also go to rural areas simply because they don't have shops to go buy from..

It makes sense but I think it’s funny. I’d love to know what the topping most ordered is there.

Homemade is good but you need a six-hundred degree oven plus for the crispy crust. I used to buy from a local pizzeria just the baked thin crust. I’d freeze a dozen and then make my own with cooked mushrooms or cooked meat. Fifteen minutes in the oven and the cheese would melt and the crust would defrost and heat up. I paid a dollar for each crust and raw dough was a dollar. Free baking made it a great deal.

I’d do breakfast pizza with an omelet of six eggs, meat and cheese and freeze two slices per container. Toaster oven for a bit and hot breakfast!

I see raw dough in supermarkets for $2 now.

it is not only pizza sale, pizza, beer, desserts etc.
The prices of products and services in Alaska are also higher.
