Seems like a dumb idea to me, I can see an self driven van arriving at your addresses and then you go out and get the parcel, and the parcels are all tagged so if you take the wrong one out of the van an alarm goes off, that could be done with technology now, without the half a million dollar droid in the back.

I think we will see a hybrid of sorts for this kind of thing. A self-driving truck with an actual person in it. That person can sort packages and keep things straight while the truck drives to the locations then the driver hops out and delivers the package.

Of course, robots that deliver could be the future, but there are just way too many variables for them to happen any time soon.

That said, I think in the next 20 years we will see a massive increase in robots/AI/automation with many people losing their jobs.

Anyway, think of the potential law suites for injury/damage claims!
Not as cheap as it appears.
What do you think will happen when kids find out you can throw a beach ball in front of a self driver and create havoc.

In my area of south east Orange county Pizza Hut & Amazon have been polling people on if we'd go-to our driveway or parking lot to pick up future deliveries from a driverless vehicle.

Don't forget how cheap these bastards are & how fast they want deliveries done. That robot is slow as fuck and will not get to normal delivery persons deliveries done in one day

Amazon is so cheap they want to populate their video games, virtual reality, clothing apps, etc. with 3D scans of real people. They want people to take time out of their day, come into their location, spend an hour or more and get a 3D scan of their body to be used in whatever way Amazon wants to use it and what compensation will you get? You will get a $25 Amazon gift certificate. That's it! There's no way they're paying big bucks for a slow robot to deliver packages time soon

We will probably never see this in our lifetime with the big carriers. I have been doing contract work 3 nights per week for 1 of them for the past year. They are getting ready to do a big roll out in 2020 with an upgrade to the way they track trucks/drivers/deliveries.

The current system they use is so antiquated when I first saw it I couldn't believe it. Nothing is centralized, to check on a shipment or location of driver/truck you have to have about 8 screens open and cross reference between them. Some of it is still in DOS.

The new system they are putting into place addresses some of these issues, however, by the time it rolls out it will still be 10 years outdated.

Companies like this hate embracing new technologies. Cost and retraining of people. They expect this new software roll out in 2020 to cost well over a billion dollars.
