I personally believe we - meaning Americans - have issues with mental health.

When i was a kid we had a large collection of expensive custom rifles and shotguns. We kept them in a glass "gun cabinet" - it was locked but my folks kept the key on top of the cabinet... Then again any five year old kid could of opened it without the key. Not once did we ever consider taking out the rifles or shotguns.

The problem here is all mental health. Anyone who is willing to walk into school or place of business and shot people at random has mental issues.

This combined with easy access to firearms is a dangerous combination.

Eventually you will need a license to own a firearm. I believe in some states this is a requirement.

Men are pussies compared to my dad's generation. He manned a twin 20mm anti-aircraft gun on a WW2 battleship and lived through the terror of shooting down kamikazes before they could inflict massive damage. He took loads of shrapnel for his country in a righteous war that saved the world from tyranny.

men today don't have that experience so many of them are little babies who can't deal with their problems, so they go out and kill innocent people. I don't want to oversimplify it, and I'm not saying that all men need to go to war, but there's a stark difference between the problems of a modern young man vs generations past. And I'll include myself in that group of whiny baby men who haven't been forged in the flame of battle. We're all a bunch of pussies, although most of us won't pick up a gun to kill strangers because of a feeling of being victimized.

They simply became more common as semi auto guns became more common.. You dont see many mass shootings with bolt action rifles or 6 shot revolvers... I think maybe the only exception was the Texas university shooter who used a bolt action rifles but he locked him self at the top of a tower so it was hard to get at him but even still he had multiple semi auto pistols and a sawed off shot gun.. He was also a trained Marine Marksmen so it would be obvious for him to be capable with a bolt action..


24hr news coverage and the internet probably helps add to the mix as so many of these new shooters seem to want to copy cat the previous ones..

There's also a barrage of influences on younger generations these days through media, television, internet, social media...you name it - that previous generations weren't heavily inundated or influenced by.

Graphic violence has become entertainment.

To a normal adjusted person, it only remains entertainment. To those with mental health issues it can become a trigger...justification to go on a rampage.

I blame the rap music and the video games.

I've often complained that people today are pathetically weak and men especially so. That much weakness is going to cause mental problems.

I've always know that it's the scared dog that's most likely to bite you while it's the tough bad ass dog that's more likely to give you lots of warning. It seems to me people are a lot like that. The reasons why such crimes are done with firearms instead of baseball bats or knives is because with a firearm you don't have to get "wet" - meaning, you don't get blood on you. With a baseball bat or a knife, you would have to go to one person at a time, over power them, and hurt them enough so that they don't get back up and attack you. Now imagine you walk into a room and have to take on ten people with a baseball bat or a knife. It doesn't work. You would very quickly get taken down.

But with a semi automatic firearm... You can walk into the room and pick people off quickly one at a time without having to physically confront anyone, and with really lifting a finger.

Maybe the problem is semi automatic weapons.

There is a lot of debate about "assault rifles". The NRA has quietly been working to define an assault rifle as having "selective fire" meaning it can fire one shot, a burst, OR be fully automatic. That is not what a assault rifle is. A assault rifle is a rifle used to assault a position. You aren't going to run up a hill with a long scoped rifle and attack. The purpose of a assault rifle is to kill a human being.

In Paris Island... The first thing they taught us was to say "sir", the second was zig zag when dodging bullet, and the third was to never ever use the fully automatic on the M16.
