How common are burned out pixels?

I've got a new HP laptop that is just a couple months old. Already there is a pixel near the bottom of the screen that is flickering red on and off.

Do all laptops eventually get burned out pixels? Or did I just get a lemon?

I know the bastards at Future Shop won't help me with it because I didn't pay for their stinking extended warranty.

Look at HP's site. They should have it under warranty for at least a year.

A friend of mine had the same problem with his laptop. They told him, that up to 5 burned out pixels are acceptable, only for more than 5 you'll get a new display on warranty.

My wife has had a laptop for well over four years, and she doesn't have any burnt pixels. Although, just recently the keyboard has been giving her problems. It's being replaced now.
She is currently looking for smaller less bulky laptop, any recomendations?

Now that I think about it, that 5 pixel rule is what the guy told me at the store when he was trying to sell me the extended warranty.

Hopefully no more show up.

That $300 warranty is starting to look pretty good right about now.

Yeah, be sure to check the warranty. The bad pixel percentage varies with different manufacturers.

A friend of mine had a problem like that with an IBM, like 3 burnt out pixels - IBM wouldn't replace it unless it was like 20 pixels or something along those lines - in other words, depending on the company, you could be screwed. it's bullshit, but it might be true.
