Alaska hit 70 degrees the earliest ever, and more record highs are expected

Question: Why is when we have record cold spells and someone says "hey, how about that global warming?" people shout them down with "that's weather!" But whenever we have a record high temp, people scream "See, global warming!"

(CNN) Much of the country will see a dive in temperatures this weekend, but Alaska continues to bake with record highs.

Parts of the state have had their earliest 70-degree readings on record. Klawock, a town in southeastern Alaska, reached 70 F on March 19 -- the earliest any spot in the state has hit that high.

More records are expected to be broken this weekend, with temperatures soaring as much as 50 degrees above normal in the fastest-warming state.

Meanwhile, Northeastern cities such as Boston are still awaiting a 70-degree day more than a week after spring officially began.

Anchorage sees no measurable snow in March

Since the beginning of the month, Alaska has seen 55 tied or broken record daily highs through March 23, according to National Oceanic And Atmospheric Administration.

On Saturday, Anchorage is expecting a high of 46 F, which will be warmer than many places in the Plains, stretching as far south as Oklahoma.

Anchorage hit 48 F on Monday, tying a previous record set in 1970.

Alaska's most populous city also has had no measurable snow in March for the second time on record.

Fairbanks is no different. Until this week, the city had never had consecutive days in March when temperatures stayed above freezing. On Monday and Tuesday mornings, the temps didn't dip below 34 F.

According to Alaska-based climatologist Brian Brettschneider, "the earliest date for back-to-back above freezing low temperatures was April 15-16, 1978."

Kotzebue, north of the Arctic Circle, set or tied the daily record high every day this week as of Thursday, with temperatures just above freezing.

The town also set or tied a record-high minimum temperature nine times this month.
State considered ground zero of climate change

The warming trend in Alaska is nothing new, however.

March will be the 29th month since January 2013 to rank in the warmest 10% since 1925, while only one month -- April 2013 -- in this time period is in the coldest 10%.

Such comfy temperatures and an early spring may seem like a good thing for Alaskans, but they're far from it. The effects of climate change are affecting Alaska faster than most places, with many climatologists considering it to be ground zero in the warming world.
Coping with the challenges of this changing landscape has become a harsh reality for residents of our northernmost state.

    Nobody cares

You're too stupid to understand climate change and I'm smart enough to know better than to try explaining it to you.

I know the difference between weather and climate, I'd just like to know why you guys twist it to fit your agenda.

We had one of our wettest Winters in history here in Monarch Beach, California.

Our water reservoirs are all completely full here in California and 90% of the state is out of drought status

No you don't know the difference between weather & climate change or you wouldn't ask why consistent record high temperatures are referenced in relation to climate change.

This is how record high temperatures correlate with climate change:

"According to Nasa, in 2016 the Earth’s surface temperature shattered the previous record for hottest year by 0.12°C. That record was set in 2015, which broke the previous record by 0.13°C. That record had been set in 2014, beating out 2010, which in turn had broken the previous record set in 2005."

You are a guy that believes your skin color makes you superior to all others on the planet, despite facts despite science proving the contrary. I don't expect you to believe the science behind climate change.

pretty sure global warming means more than just "getting hot". if systems get too warm, it offsets cold systems and those become more drastic in response.

so yeah, if its too early for alaska to be 70, and other places are too cold, its all connected. perhaps you're right, we should say climate change instead of global warming so people don't confuse it

You clearly have no clue what Global warming is.. everyone looks at you people like the idiots you are when you claim "see it's cold global warming is fake..

Global = the entire fucking planet.. The fact that it's now breaking records on every front be it massive snow fall in the Rockies this year which resulted in massive flooding in Nebraska.. or being 70 degrees in Alaska.. or the fact we've had more major Cat 5 Hurricanes in the last 10 years vs the last 100..

all that is the result of the global temps rising.

You pea brains can't get through your heads is global = the entire planet. It's average temp across the entire planet. Some places like the poles .. you know where Alaska is.. will get warmer, yet other places will actually get cooler average temps.. That's because due to the rising average temp for the entire "globe" the warmer/cooler areas are shifting. It's also why we are seeing many area drying up while other areas are getting record rains..

Try to actually educate yourself for once in your fucking life..
In November, you can vote for America's next president or its first dictator.
