    4k video specifications for members areas

    what do you guys think is the best setting for 4k videos for members of a paysite?

    i'm running alot of test encodes... but can't decide on what is the best one

    it seems like the youtube 4k preset in adobe media encoder is the best one, but is it ok to play with the MBPS setting, and cut it to half or something to get the file sizes more manageable?


    i'm looking for the 4k members encode setting that will keep members happy at least for the next few years

      Well with "true" 4K the file sizes are in the GB range (20-40GB). So that is WAY too big for most Members to download. If you are streaming you do not need to have file sizes that big.

      What I do is encode 4K at around 4000mb with 1920x1080. Sometimes that can go up to 8000 mb depending on the content. So that would bring a 20 minute video down to around 800mb per clip.

      Basically anything under 1 gig per clip I think is fine.

          That's not 4k. That's 1080p.

          True 4k is not 20 to 40gb.

          Where are you getting these numbers?

              absolutely


              4k is 4k, so the size of screen needs to remain the same, but the mbps you can rise and lower...

              We use 8mbps on 1920x1080 which is 58mb per minute...

              for 4k video, i´d recommend maybe 12 to 20mbps, no lower & no need for any higher.

                  Well when I get a 4K video it is shot in 12,000 up to 20,000 mbps (if I remember correctly, these are ranges). So the size of a full 25 minute scene, for example, is like 20 gig in size. LOL So I need to reduce that size down (for downloading). I am talking bitrate here, not resolution.

                      our camera shoots 1080hd at 25Mbps with 50fps, not sure what our 4k is, but you mentioned resolution

                      if you bought the bitrate to about 15mbps on 4k res, you´ll find the film is about 140mb per min, so 20min scene would be around 3gb

                                  Although, i´m sure you could lower to maybe 16 or pushing 14mbps & still have smooth running quality 4k vision...

                                      Exactly. 1080p is not 4k.

                                      2160p is 4k.

                                      I think OP is getting compression standards confused with resolutions.

                                          wasn´t op getting confused with compression settings & res, was porn nerd suggesting to edit it to this resolution and compression setting...

                                          no matter the compression setting, the resolution remains 4k if you want 4k
