What we really need to do is properly fund the Border Patrol. The biggest problem we have right now is no one wants to work for the Border Patrol. It's a crappy job. We need to pay Border Patrol agents A LOT more. No one wants to move to a little desert town in the middle of no where. Not only do we need to pay them more, we need to build small towns where they can live - sort of like military bases.

I mean... If we can build tent cities to lock up kids... Why can't we build something for Border Patrol agents?

I have a buddy who is a border patrol agent and he makes a decent living. The problem is health care. If one of these guys needs any sort of tests done, they will be waiting 6 months or more. BTW, he says we need more agents and we need to spend money on technology, not a wall. A wall doesn't stop the flow of drugs, and a wall is not going stop illegals from getting in. He said he is not concerned about them going over the wall, but they will go under it and they will claim amnesty. Half of all illegals enter the country legally and over stay their welcome. A border wall is not going to stop that.

Seems to me Border Patrol agents make about $50k a year. Some quick research says it goes up to $90k. That doesn't begin to compensate them for what they do. Average way for a police officer is $62k.

Democrats want border protection too, but they want it done properly. Not a blanket statement of a "wall" and done. Why build a wall when a fence is just as effective and one fifth the price?

The Border Patrol is using drones all the time. It's very effective. It's the only way to patrol thousands of miles of border. In fact, they use Predator drones.

This is a huge part of the problem. Republicans just don't seem to understand what is really happening at the border. You want to build a wall and you think that just fixes the problem. It doesn't. They will over the wall, under the wall, or through it. This is why they use drones. The drone sees a dozen people crossing the border, they track them, and dispatch Border Patrol agents to round them up.

We have walls, fences, and barriers. We still use drones and we still have to patrol. Building a wall doesn't fix the problem.

Arm the drones, that will stop them , until then, we need a wall. An unarmed drone only tells agents that someone is there, it doesn't stop anybody!

Democrats offered up an additional $1.4 billion for border security. This is on top of the countless billions we already spend. Why are we spending additional billions for border protection when illegal immigration is down?

There is no sudden surge, and what we have in place is obviously working. We have walls. We have fences. We have barriers. We have drones. We have helicopters. We even have agents on horses. And boats. It's under control.

Obama deported more illegals than any other president. And he did it without having to arrest people at their kid's schools and without having to separate parents from their kids.
