UK age verification law change in April

At the end of April the law in the UK is changing to force all pornographic websites that accept visitors from the UK to verify their visitors using a passport, driving license or credit card. I run an escort directory that gets around 90,000 visitors per month and have been evaluating my options. It looks like age verification systems are going to charge around 5p ($0.07) per visitor! I know they only need to be verified once but this charge is likely going to wipe out my business as the fee could be higher than my total revenue. Is anyone else in a similar situation. Is there any cheaper way to perform the age verification? Please can someone offer me some advice. Thanks!

There is at least one adult verification service company here on GFY saying it will be free.

There is no way that most sites make .07 per visitor (or probably even 1/100 of that), so highly doubtful they will charge that much if they charge at all. Do you have some link to the .07 number?

This is for a major network that the surfer will hit before they hit most other sites.
So the surfer will already be age verified when they surf to smaller websites and they will
not have to verify their age again on any site in the ageid network(which will be your site too).
So being part of this network can mean easy surfing on your site since the surfer is already verified through one of the mega porn sites on the internet.

I pointed out in my previous post that they are unable to block sites that promote self harm, suicide, terrorism, etc. So how will they monitor the biggest sector of URLs on the Internet?

My server is outside the UK already. The law change applies to all sites that get visitors from the UK. So unless you actually block visits from the UK you will have to age verify all visitors to your sites too.

The BBFC has set up a website for its age verification roles. If websites don't have age verification systems in place the BBFC can take enforcement action against them. The body says it will start checking websites for age checking processes when the law begins and will check the biggest websites first – based on the number of visitors they receive – and then work towards smaller websites.

If commercial pornographic websites don't have age verification in place the BBFC has a number of options about what it can do. It says: "These requesting ancillary service providers to withdraw services such as advertising, asking payment service providers to withdraw services, and requiring internet service providers and mobile network operators to block access to the non-compliant service."

Good luck with getting to the small ones. How many people are going to have to be employed to do the monitoring?

The government has granted the BBFC powers to tackle websites that refuse to put age checks in place. At the lower end of its powers it will be able to notify providers (including ancillary third-party groups such as social media) that they "withdraw their services".

Other powers include "notifying payment service providers of credit and debit cards and requesting that they withdraw their services" and getting internet service providers to block the website entirely. This last option is likely to be a final resort but the power could disrupt the revenue streams of websites that refuse to apply age verification.

So you can see how toothless they are.

As the UK is now a Muslim country in all but name, I guess images of extreme violence are acceptable (as long as private parts are pixellated out), whereas the sight of nipples would undermine the moral fabric of British youth.
