'Loveless' and 'Leviathan' Producer Sets Porn Industry TV Series

Russian producer Alexander Rodnyansky (Leviathan, Loveless) has unveiled plans for a TV series on the porn industry, which will be directed by award-winning Hungarian director Kornel Mundruczo.

"Pornography has played a very important role in the life of humankind," Rodnyansky was quoted as saying by Russian industry journal Exhibitor's Bulletin. "This business is based on exploitation of female body, and we would like to tell a story about changes in that industry at a time of fundamental changes in attitudes to women."

He added: "I have faith in the creative vision of Kornel Mundruczo, one of the most gifted European directors."

Mundruczo will write the script with his long-time collaborator Kata Weber. Set in Budapest, which has a large porn industry, the series will be filmed in English with an international cast.

Mundruczo's films have screened in the official selection at Cannes, including Delta in 2008, which won the FIPRESCI Prize; Szelid teremtes - A Frankenstein-terv in 2010; and Jupiter holdja in 2017. His Feher isten (White God) won the Un Certain Regard sidebar award in Cannes in 2014.

The yet-unnamed TV series comes as the third project of Rodnyansky's new company AR Content. It previously announced a documentary on a pre-Holocaust refugee crisis, which is to be co-produced by Oscar-winning director Kevin Macdonald, and Debriefing the President, based on John Nixon’s nonfiction account of interrogating Iraqi ruler Saddam Hussein.
