Why Democrats Could Consider Registering Republican To Stop Trump

This is an old article, but I was thinking about this scenario today so I researched the possibility. Now that Democrats control the house, this scenario would stop Trump and kill the chances of any other Republican candidate.

Register as a Republican... Vote for Kasich in the primary. If Trump decides to run as an independent, he would certainly lose the Presidential election and no one would likely get to 270. That would enable the Democrats, who own the house, to choose the next President, which would most certainly be the Democratic nominee.

I would have voted for Kasich over Hillary. He seemed smart and level headed.

But I will never vote Republican again. They allowed Trump into the Oval Office. And then supported this.

Because of the electoral college, Trump is going to be the likely winner, barring an impeachment or resignation.

Same.. I didn't like all Kasich policies but he was pretty smart.. Something no one can say about Trump..
In November, you can vote for America's next president or its first dictator.

The midterm elections showed us that Trump has lost the rust belt now due to 300,000 layoffs with Ford & GM and multiple plants closing. so unless something changes drastically in Trump's favor he will not win in 2020.

8,000,000 more people voted Democrat in the midterms this year than Republican.

Not to mention the writing is on the wall with the economy heading for a recession. Of course Trump will blame Obama and a third of the country will believe him, but I don't think Trump has a snowballs chance in hell of being reelected regardless of the economy.

Yes I can just see his tweet now as the recession starts "I tried my best to fix Obama's destroyed economy but with the obstructionist Dems in the house it's just not possible. Vote RED or America will be destroyed!!! "

Will the next Presidential candidates come up with policies the people want. Or just blindly follow those that got them into the mess they are in now?

3,000,000 more people voted for the Democrat in 2016. Democrats had what the majority of people wanted.

I don't believe so. Trump didn't win the majority of the votes in the election, but he came close enough and won the electoral college. I don't think he will get enough votes to win the electoral college a second time.

Same here. He was my favorite candidate although slightly boring.

But boring is ok, as long as the candidate seems to have some common sense and doesn't carry himself like an illiterate clown.

I'm not going to automatically vote Democrat. I vote for who I like as PRESIDENT of the UNITED FUCKING STATES. I would feel much better if Mitt Romney was president right now, despite my disagreement with almost everything he stands for politically.

Last time, many people felt neither candidate was anywhere near a "best candidate". They either voted for who they hated less, or against who they hated more. Would have loved to see a Biden/Kasich election in 2016, instead of the crap candidates we had.

                                  I completely disagree with this.

I did not like Hillary, still don't. But we had a choice between one highly qualified candidate and one candidate with no experience at all.

Say what you want about Hillary Clinton, but she was perfectly qualified. She lived in the White House for eight years, had the political background having running multiple campaigns at both the state and federal level, Senator, and Secretary Of State. If this isn't enough, she had survived a dozen investigations and was by far the most vetted candidate of our lifetime. Instead we voted for the candidate with no experience who seems to have failed at nearly everything he ever did while being the most litigious candidate for President in all time.

I didn't like Hillary, but when compared to Trump.... It was pretty easy to pick the right person. Instead we picked Trump.

They are saying war with Iran is being formulated right now in the Trump administration

Does the US want a war with Iran over Syria?

Do not underestimate the stupidity of GOP voters.

My mind tells me that there is no way he can win again, but then I remind myself of the people that voted for him before. I talk to these types of people often, and the consensus is, their opinions have not changed.
Trump is walking a high wire with the voters. Basically, if you support him and voted for him, he loves you. If not, you are dead to him. He has done nothing to try to reach out to anyone other than his base. The midterms showed that some of that base is willing to vote Democrat. The election came down to about 40,000 votes spread across three states. If those people don't vote for Trump again, and he doesn't pick up any new voters, he won't win again.

He can win, incumbents are hard to beat, but he is hurting his own cause as he continues to strike out at anyone and everyone who doesn't cradle his balls in their mouth. I am of the opinion that as long as the Democrats choose someone who the young voters like, they will win in 2020.

All that said, two years in politics is a long time. A lot can happen between now and then.

I personally completely agree with your logic, but a LOT of people I work with hated Hillary so much they would NEVER vote for her, even given a known bankrupt blowhard egoist like Trump as their other choice.

And yet Hillary got 3,000,000 more votes than Trump and lost the Electoral College by just 40,000 votes

The rust belt has 300,000 layoffs & multiple plants shutting down via GM & Ford.

Guess where those jobs are going? Their plants in Mexico & China.

Many of those 300,000 laid off people who's jobs went out of the country will not vote Trump.

With a booming economy & low jobless rate 8,000,000 more people voted Drmocrat than Republican in the midterms. A record!
