Need Youtube Video Editing Advice

Hey,

I need to upload some edited videos to Youtube in HD but I am having some issues.
I am really new to Youtube but am trying.

I bought Filmora video editing software and tried to edit a couple of videos but the lag was insane.

I then read from some Indian guy to export your clip to WMV then edit it and finally upload to Youtube as MP4.

The trouble is after I convert it to WMV the clip is no longer HD, it's 480p.

I love how easy it is to edit them once converted to WMV I used to find it a pain in the ass in MP4.

So, I want HD videos uploaded to video. What do I do?

Is it the software? My machine?

I have a fairly modern laptop, win 10, Nikon D5300

Why are you dealing with WMV? I haven't seen or used that file format in a decade.

And even it was the correct size, you're re-compressing an already compressed file and will lose more quality.

You always edit in the rawest format that you can get from your equipment. The D5300 put's out a MOV @ 1920x1080@60FPS.

If your computer can't pull that video file in and edit it, get a faster computer, they are like $499 at best buy

I'd suggest trying Adobe Premier, you can get just PP for like $21/month, or the entire suite of programs for $40/month. Black Friday special till Nov 30th.

Like bronco67 stated, never use a compressed format to edit in, the results will suck a sweaty ball sack

We have photoshop already. Don't know if it comes with Adobe Premier though. I got Filmora because it's easy to use.
Can you suggest what minimum PC requirements I would need to not get the lag with .mov files?

I can open and work on 4k raw video on my laptop which is a win 10 OS, with 16GB ram and a Intel Core i5 CPU, It's an HP that I got last christmas for $499 at sam's club. Using Premier Pro it may take 2 or 3 minutes to index the footage the first time I open it up, but then it's quick at editing and previewing from then on.

Is it the fastest thing on the block ?? No But it get's the job done and didn't cost me a fortune

If I was editing video all day long, I would probably get a desktop that had more CPU/GPU power and more memory to make the encoding go faster.

Good Luck

Here is the easiest solution:

1 - Get Adobe Premiere. You can pay for it on a monthly basis. Its cheap.

2 - Once you have Premiere, edit what you need to edit in HDV 1080p format. (or whatever format you filmed in).

3 - Once you are done editing, export the sequence using the Adober Media Encoder. There are HD Youtube presets you can use.

Thats it. No further need to complicate things.

Here, I'll even include screenshots because I'm awesome and it will make things easier for you:

1 - Sequence Settings

2 - Export the sequence when you're done editing

3 - Export Settings

But the problem is actually editing the files at the quality recorded in. When they are imported there is a lag after every movement on the timeline and audio is out of sync too.

Get a faster computer with more memory and switch over to Premier Pro

Video lagging can be a slow computer. However, if audio is lagging AFTER you have rendered out your video means your project settings are incorrect.

Just get Premiere Pro, it will fix 99% of your problems. It will even create proxy files so you can edit in realtime without having to load your heavy HD files everytime.

I have downloaded Adobe Premier Pro.
It's a 7 day trial
I am not impressed so far. I haven't even started, the software took nearly 2 hours to install.
I tried to open it and it just hung for like 20 minutes.

Think it's finished now but I don't know where to start. Scared to touch it in case it makes my laptop freeze.
