They are a way of showing their community (and anyone watching or reading about it) that they are here, they are part of this community, they aren't going away, and they demand equality. I've been to prolly a dozen gay pride parades and street fairs. They're a blast and not all are that risque. The San Francisco gay pride parade is much more tame than the fulsom street fair for instance.

the first gay parade in my country was like 16 years ago...there was blood in the streets...I was there because I lived in the city center and I saw this poor art student guy get beat up by a gang of hooligans simply because he looked gay...he was not gay at all, his girlfriend protected him from the mob...a few citizens helped him get to a building where they locked the door to keep him safe...he was not gay he was just wearing red pants...then paving stones started to fly, the riot police came and broke out the tear gas...I saw people getting beaten on all sides, but the actual gay parade, that was like 10 dudes with pink baloons, just ran away...

every year since then it has been a violent riot...the police block the streets and the hooligans try to find alternate routes to beat the gays and the citizens stay away if they can....empty streets with riot police everywhere...WHO exactly is supposed to see this "parade"?!?

Why? I 've thought it is obvious. Deeply divided societies in the constant fight are easier to control. While you are being busy with this crap and gay brainfucking, your favorite Muslim friends just bought 300 square kilometers of your best land, 9000 cows,3500 cattle, 6K pigs,2K sheep, 330 tractors and thousands of other machines. Fun, colorful, great music and hot chicks! What was cool though was that there were lots and lots of straight couples, elderly couples, etc, and alot of people brought their kids.

The cops that were there seemed to be enjoying the party too. The mayor was there and of course the local news covered it. There were a few celebs I heard but I didn't see them.

It's just a parade. Hopefully cities will relax enough to let everyone enjoy it, and the trouble makers were stay away.

When I lived in Boston, I went because friends went and were part of it. I saw sexy men nearly undressed, shaking their groove things at me. It was fun, over-the-top outrageousness and hilarity. Most gay people aren’t flaming or demonstrative and are your neighbors, doctor, dentist and boss. I had lesbians coming over and trying to talk, kiss and more.
