VR porn booths let Japan’s randy cyber-pervs watch virtual reality smut for just $13 an hour

JAPAN is home to seedy virtual reality porn booths where randy locals get off to hi-tech smut.

Horned-up Tokyo residents – and tourists, too – can pay ¥1,500 (around £10) for an hour-long XXX session.

Porn companies use hi-tech camera rigs to film first-person sex films, which can then be viewed on VR headsets – as if the wearer was right there in the scene themselves.

But Japan has taken this immersive medium a step further, creating dedicated booths for watching virtual reality smut in peace.

The booths were discovered by sex tech blogger Charlie Forrest, who wrote: "Space is a valuable commodity, but it would seem that in Tokyo at least, so too is the privacy to masturbate."

Top VR porn star Brett Rossi, who has appeared in around 10 virtual reality productions, recently told The Sun about acting in VR scenes: "You have to pretend like there's someone there. There is someone there, but you have to pretend like they're communicating with you."

High-end VR headsets can cost well over £1,000, so at £10 a pop, this is arguably a great deal.

These sex booths were created by a company called Soft On Demand, a notorious Japanese VR porn firm.

"SOD, as it turns out, is essentially the basement of a sex shop that contains a handful of booths where clientele can lock themselves away with a computer, VR headset, and a literal wall-mounted tissue dispenser," Charlie explains.

"And yes you might be right, and we didn’t ask, but we think that’s a vacuum cleaner in the picture too."

The booths are located in Tokyo's infamous Akihabara district, an area known for its geek culture and seedy stores.

Soft On Demand began fitting booths into the region in January last year, giving customers the opportunity to watch VR adult films – and regular porn, to boot.

The rooms are reportedly sound-proofed, but it's not clear how regularly they're cleaned – or whether the VR headsets are even wiped down.

Japan is known for its progressive (and sometimes obsessive) approach to sex tech.

In 2016, the country's first VR porn festival had to be shut down – because it was too popular.

One local reporter described the scenes: "The event didn’t start until 2 PM, so I went there in high spirits an hour before then, but the city was already overflowing with people.

"There were so many that it was almost impossible to keep the situation under control.

"While waiting for my friends, I couldn’t help but think that if they couldn’t control the mass of people, a riot or something similar could happen.

"The 20 lucky guys closest to the building were let in by the staff. I’m sure there was a line inside the building that rivalled the one outside."
