Internet marketing. I have a mix of adult and mainstream sites, so I mention mainstream and leave it at that. It also helps with banking etc to have mainstream wires

Always the true, i'm designer and photographer, and if they want to know more, just needs to ask, there is nothing weird about working in adult, at least all the people i know have not that kind of feelings about what i do

Just describe what you would do as a web designer. If it helps, maybe pick up a mainstream client or two so you can show people, even get some business cards and a webpage

Might even be fun and learn a thing or two.

This was my advice as well. Throw up a quick Wordpress theme, write some generic 'affiliate marketing" text and name it something like Internet Prosperity Systems or something.

Truth: most people's eyes glaze over after 4 seconds of web or tech talk anyway.

OR you could just say what I say: "What do I do for a living? I make people happy."

And when they ask "How?" I say "Orgasms. You?"

I'll ask if they know anything about computer programming / app programming. Most will respond 'a little or no'.
Some inquired further but to no avail of understanding my responses to their inquiry. Unless there is a computer sciences major overhearing us to continue this one sided conversation, my response usually ends the 'What do you do' Q&A conversation.

The conversation returns back to how my 2018 Impala can drag my 73 Nova SS's down the 1/4. I periodically frequent the same watering holes. They know I'm a egg head but a down to earth egg head that knows how to separate career from personal off the clock life.
