How am I supposed to tip for a haircut? Say if its a good haircut, one that you are happy with.. I tipped the chick 4 bucks today and she had this look on her face..

What the fuck? Is that under the industy standard? What do you tip?

I usually just tip 5 bucks. if they sucked, i'll tip less...if its a guy and he's gay (which happened recently) then like 3.

it also depends on where you go... i've tipped 10 dollars before too. but i went to a nice place.

i usually tip like 2 if it's good, and i am completely happy.. I am a cheap bastard, but unfortunately it wasn't my choice for them to give haircuts for a living.. so they have to live with cheap bastards like me..

When I used to get my haircuts at Supercuts, the lady there told me that 80% of the people that bitch and try to get out of paying for a cut are MALE! Isn't that hard to fathom?

So next time when your stylist or barber is done, look in the mirror, run your fingers thru your hair or something and look very displeased and unhappy! Kinda as if he or she just ruined you day. Then whatever tip you give them, would be appreciated rather than expected.

I can't stand the way people think that tipping is something they should get regardless of the service they give. What do you give a waitress that ONLY sees you when you order, when the foods brought out and when she hands out the check? (Basically things she would get fired for if she didn't do, right? It's nothing above and beyond her job DUTIES.)

I know that a lot of jobs out there depend on tips as a major source of their income but the concept of giving somebody EXTRA money for MERELY doing their job somewhat puzzles me. But it's accepted and it's done so I do it. But whether I give 10%, 15% or 20% should be my damn decision and if they don't like it, they can get another job or GO FUCK THEMSELVES!

When I was a kiddie growing up my mom always took me and my two brothers into one of those cheap hair cutting chains to get our hair all cut at once. I never saw her tip once growing up so I didn't even realize it was expected until a g/f tagged along once when I was older and pointed it out to me. Now I tip 20% which my wife considers cheap...hehe...

My wife used to be a waitress and kiss ass for big tips. She got a $1.00 tip for a table of 10 that she had been waiting on all night once. She ran out and threw the $1.00 in the guy's face in the parking lot. She has a bad temper. We got out to eat a lot and I imagine our waiters/waitresses like her because she tips at least 30%.

I use to waitress so I know what it's like, but I also know when my waitress is being lazy. If they're good 13% if bad a couple bucks max.
As for haircuts, I'm verry fussy and have been seeing the same person for a long time, 5 to 10 bucks depending on what she did.

One reason I hate going to get my hair cut is because I have a bit of natural curl to my hair that hair stylists always have to drool over. Sometimes they call the other ladies over to take a look. It's embarassing, so I prefer to go to a barber than one of the chains. There was a barber in the little town I used to live in...like 65-70 years old...very little small talk...10 minute hair cut...and he shaved the back of your neck with one of those prehistoric blades. I miss that guy.

I acutally have my wife shave my head with the clippers to avoid beauty shops.

I think women should tip more for a haircut because they are there a hell of a lot longer than guys. A woman might be at the beauty shop for hours getting her hair washed, dyed, cut, styled, permed, etc. My hair cuts take 10 minutes at the most.

I got used to who tipped and who didn't and it sure helped make the decision whether to let them slide when they were 15 minutes late for an appointment, give them "fresh" coffee, or use the expensive products on them. So it entirely depends on what you want out of it. Tip a few bucks if you're in and out in 10 min. But if you want this and that and a bunch of extra bullshit, tip well and you'll be remembered. Which is important if you liked what they did the last time. No tip at all and I used to forget what the hell I did and not particularly give a rats ass either.

I really like this post becaue it really applies to me.. I also used to be a hair person, and like dancers, it is the bread and butter of our income.. I only would get like 7.00 per hour, and the 5.00 tips were a must to get by.. But people dont tip that much..

Guys, a bit of advice. Tip 5.00 or more for a harir cut, and no 20% is not enough when it comes to haircuts.. This is not a resturant.

Shit if you are at supercuts, your haircut is only 10 bucks.. You should give at least 5 bucks. The cut is soo damn cheap, you should now tip your barbur.. Its like the 10 goes to the house to get in the seat, the rest of the $$ should go to the person cutting it.

I worked plenty of $6.00/hr. jobs to put myself through college and they were cashier/stocking jobs where there are no tips. If people only make $7.00/hr. cutting hair...my advice is work 80 hours a week like many other people have to. The hardest jobs in the world pay the least and don't come with tips:

express lane at a grocery store
farm work
fast food

The poor saps at McDonald's work a hell of a lot harder than any restaurant waiters...but do we give them tips?

All I know is that when I was a cashier I had to work every holiday, I had people throw things at me because we were out of sale items, I was threatened with physical violence for store problems that had nothing to do with my personal job performance, the store I worked at was robbed at gunpoint several times a year, I had to deal with drunken idiots on a daily basis, and there's plenty of other shit cashiers have to put up for their $5-6 an hour. I'm not in that line of work anymore, but I have a lot of respect and sympathy for people doing that job. They are underpaid and underappreciated.

Well, every person in the service industry has had to deal with those poor souls that have to elevate their self perceptions by disreguarding or demoralizing "the help".

As far as waiting tables is concerned, most of them still make the majority of their wages from tips. Hell, here in Texas, they still pay a server $2.06 per hour if they can get away with it. Should it be the customer's problem that the resteraunt or club owner is too cheap to pay "the help"?

I don't know. What I do know is because I worked in restaraunts/clubs for so long, I can go in any place and get THE BEST SERVICE because I know how to act with respect. I don't have to throw my money around and yet chefs come to my table and give me special desserts and waitresses give me free drinks.

Hell yes, your hairdresser should get a tip. Maybe all of you are lucky lucky and can go to McHaircuts and get a 10 minute chop job and you always look good. A lot of people aren't so lucky. A bad haircut can fuck your month. A good haircut can change your life. I've seen it happen.

Just like that server that regardless of how busy it is, how understaffed they are or how many times they have to endure coddling cud chewers like you AND can still get your tea, your order right, a new fork cause you dropped yours, a new glass cause yours has a spot, oh and creamer because you forgot to ask, and can still smile when your throw down your precious 10.25%... Well, it takes a special person with a special patience. Service is more than just a job, it's a fucking skill.

Be nice to "the help" and the help will be nicer that you deserve.

Wow! some of you are giving $10 tips. My haircut costs $8 and if I have my beard trimmed it's $10. I tip $1 if I like the cut. It only takes 30mins to cut hair. So he's making $16/hour. That's not a bad wage.
Once at PizzaHut, I tipped this waiter $0.15 he was gay and he ran out in the parking lot and made a total scene. He threw the 15 pennies at me and my friends. It was hysterical. He gave us very bad service. One of my buddies went to the front desk to retrieve both our pizzas. He did bring us the first rounds of drinks. We went thirsty for awhile until another waitress bought another pitcher and some soft drinks. Soon as we got up to leave and left a tip on the table, he flew over there to retrieve his tip. Then he got pissed and wanted to fight. His service wasn't worth 15cents.

But you have to realize, the majority of these people doing your hair at like supercuts and these salons dont own the joint.. So when you pay the 10 bucks for the cut, they arent getting that money, the compnay is.. The 1 buck you give em for the tip is what they get on top of the minium wage.. Ive looked into this in detail now, and Ive come to the conclusion that maybe we SHOULD and are kinda expected to tip more than the 1-4 bucks we normally do.

I think tips in general are pointless...They wanted to do that job and they are getting paid for there job. Have any of you ever tipped the mail man or a grocery store clerk? I bet not...they are doing there job and they are doing something for you but why do they not get tips?? Barbers and all those sluts that want tip are people who didn't feel like getting a high paying job and and got a low paying one and then hoped tip would make them rich. I'm sorry if I have offended anyone AGAIN but that is how I feel and keep in mind that we never tip grocery store clerks or mailman...

You know if you tip the mailman & he takes it, he can loose his job. Don't be surprised to find a bomb in your mailbox after that.

A good tip for anybody is to actually say "thank you" & "good job." Try it sometime. Next time the grocery store cashier hands your receipt, say "thank you and have a nice day." You'll be surprise at their reaction that somebody actually took the time to talk to them.

I always tip the pizza delievery person $1.00 for each pizza I order. Of course, I never order more than two pizzas
