How can you tell if a domain is banned from google?

I have a few I am not sure if they have not been spidered or if they have been banned.

Okay so we know how to find page rank, how do we know if the domain is banned and if it is banned is there a way to have it unbanned?

if a domain has gone from having a PR of 1 or more, to being 0, its banned.. Grey bar is not indexed......

So the domain I have has page rank zero and I don't know if it ever had a rank, but now it says page is not ranked by Google, then it is banned?

Do you know a way to unban it?

If youve had it a while and its PR0 its probably penalised or something... check your server stats see if your getting google referrers...

as for unbanning- cant be done. get a new domain.

Wow,
Yeah I've had it many years, never really done anything with it. Just checking stats and noticed no search hits, not even 1 so I must have done something weird with it at some point. Very strange. Sucks that you can't like resubmit it or something to get it unbanned, it is a good domain name

But if he has a white bar (pr0) then google knows about his site and doesnt like it. ... Grey bar means never in google...

I wish, actually it was the other guy asking about PR, I know about it, live by it on most of my sites, just happened to notice this domain today is at zero :-(

Thanks for your help everyone, here is what I did:

I built a totally new website that is 90 something % relevant to the domain name and uploaded it to the server.

Checked the page rank and it shows a Grey bar now!!!

Okay, so assuming Google did not like my old page which trully was not relevant, I submitted the new page to google. Now we wait and see. I'll keep you posted!

Fingers Crossed, otherwise the domain is for sale :-) LOL

Don't be so sure about that. White bar means that the site was never indexed, i know that because when i just uploaded a site of mine had a white bar. In a few weeks it got a PR 1 and i was even able to see the bots files on the server. That means that when the site is not indexed the bar is white and when the site is banned the bar is grey.

The "google bar" goes up to a 4 when I log into gfy.

Well, I don't know how it all works, all I know is we can watch this one and see what happens. Before I started the thread I had a domain that is about 6 years old and had been used as a Top List about 4 years ago. Then we dtopped using it as a top list and basically put a generic page on it with links to Amateur Hardcore and a few of my other sites. Sat there like that until today and had a White bar with Page rank Zero.
After our discussion, Ibuitl a new site, uploaded it and now the Page Rank is GREY. I submitted it to Google and now we wait and see. Still don't know what any of this means but it is called Testing :-)

I believe that too, that is why I asked if anyone knew how to tell if it was banned. Would really suck if it is.
But so far things are a big blur and if my uploading a new site takes care of it then we go back and look at the page that was there and tear it part to find what google didn't like. That is assuming the spiders come back and find it and add it back.

Only time will tell I guess.

I don't know what importance the bar is when I see that google is sending traffic to pages of mine with a 0 rank.
I get a lot of google traffic to 0 pages. Some pages even in the top 3 of the searched.
Confusing, but I don't care as long as it's traffic.

Nothing is as simple as it might seem. This came up once on a phpBB mod board:

If you install phpBB on a site with a pr3 or greater, the forum pages will all initially have a page rank of one less than what the site initially had. But, take either a brand new or banned domain name and install phpBB and you will immediately show a page rank of 2.

Though there were a lot of verifications of this behavior, no one could explain it. However, it was agreed that just because the google toolbar now showed a pr2, it did NOT mean the site had been somehow unbanned.

Interesting and thanks for the feedback, the server does have php on it, not sure what phpBB is, but the site was and still is straight forward .html for what it's worth!

I wish we knew a fool proof way to check "BANNED" Y/N anyway I guess we wait and see what happens.

Don't think Google will tell if it's banned or not. God they would get one hell on a lot of emails if they did. I changed ISP's so maybe that's why mine shows up grey on every site even Google. And I no I have IE set correct, checked it 4 times.

Well, mine went from White to Grey so I am assuming white, it didn't like it PR Zero, new site Grey, hasn't checked it yet!

I used to be in the top 10 on this list:

then I got stuck with the PR0, I fixed a bunch of old sites that were inter-linking some, then I emailed google a bunch of times saying I was not spamming and not interlinking sites, etc, now almost a whole fucking year later the domain is even lower at the bottom! according to alta vista the site still has
4776 inbound links.

Mouseover on the toolbar should read "Current page is not ranked by Google" if the page hasn't been indexed and that appears a gray bar for me. But white bars say "Pagerank is Google's measure of the importance of this page (0/10)" on mouseover.

Enter domain URL into google search box. If you get result "Sorry, no information is available for the URL blahblahblahblah.com" + following 2 options:
If the URL is valid, try visiting that web page by clicking on the following link: blahblahblahblah.com
Find web pages that contain the term "blahblahblahblah.com"

the site has not been indexed by Google yet.
example: http://www.google.com/search?q=blahblahblahblah.com

If you DON'T get the option "If the URL is valid, try visiting that web page by clicking on the following link: blahblahblahblah.com "

site has been BANNED from google.

This may be true for a few (or most, as people in other forum seem to have concluded) cases, but not always; the case below, for example, is an exception.

I know you research this stuff much more than me (particulartly the long, inconclusive discussions about PR0, gray bar, penalties, bans, etc), but this may be useful for you.
I once was in the process of exchanging links with a PR6 site (I mean, I was writing the HTML to link back to the site); after I uploaded my page, I checked the other site and it had a gray bar; I checked out the usual places, the dance was still far away; at the same time, several sister sites of that PR6 went gray (later on, I saw some shady techniques on all of them). *My* conclusion: those sites were manually banned; I saw a ban happening right before my eyes.
OTOH, all instances when I saw a site getting a PR0, it happened after a dance (*my* conclusion: PR0 and other penalties are applied by algorithms).

my bar is a little meter. On a high PR the left side is green and the right side is white.

when i buy a new domain it is white with NO green.

I just checked a banned site and it is grey not white. PR 0 is for "bad naighborhoods". No fucking clue what that would be as I think we all qualify as that in most peoples minds. But google does penalise sites and maybe that is 0 otherwise if it is brand new it is 0.
