i dont get the peoples public opinion sometimes. would the GP rather read mass casualty headlines or single person suicide headlines? like really at least they have the decency to not harm other people once theyve lost all their marbles. personally i have too much hate in my heart for many people to ever give the world the satisfaction. some people just cant seem to find solutions in their head because its a lot of work to self heal.Comment

People have their demons. I know he used to have a heroin addiction, never know what goes on behind closed doors. Heavy is the head that wears the crown sometimesComment

He had the only good show on CNN. I've watched Bourdain for years and really appreciated how he wasn't self important and could find beauty in anything and always good things to say about any dish, any city, any people. I always thought it was awesome that recovering from his past drmons would come up now and then and he always dpoke about iitopenly giving hope to others. I feel so sad for his little daughter.

I saw this episode, yes this conversation is an insult to anyones intelligence, but to put their stupidity into perspective:
The German guy is a classic example of how a lot of Germans are: Molded since birth by their schools and mainstream media into having constant guilt because of WW2 , even though anyone born after WW2 has ZERO to do with that era, including this guy.
The result of this indoctrination is the naive utopian fantasy world view (as he admits himself) this guy has. Everything is racist in their view, you cannot talk to them objectively about issues like the mass immigration crisis (even though Merkel herself admitted it was a huge mistake).
Bourdains view is simply based on lack of knowledge on this particular subject, simply because he is not living there, has zero experience on this particular crisis and clearly hasn't informed himself at all. He probably knows more about illegal immigration in the US, which is incomparable to what's going on here. Apples and oranges.Comment

It's interesting you say that. Not too long ago my girlfriend and I were watching his show and she said much the same. She thought he looked exhausted and like he really didn't want to be there.Comment

Sometimes people who commit suicide aren't depressed.
Robin Williams didn't want his mind to degrade more with his Parkinson's disease and he didn't want to be a burden on anyone.
It's possible Bourdain, a smoker, was diagnosed with cancer and opted for suicide rather than go through the pain of chemotherapy, or maybe he was diagnosed terminal brain cancer. It's too early to tell right now.Comment

You fucking idiots calling him selfish, it's his life, if he wants to end that's his decision.
Strange as it may seem to some of you, being super rich and traveling the world doesn't equal automatic happiness or fulfillment. Strange huh? Let that sink in for a second, if you're even capable of rational thought.Comment

He has another series I just found out about today called Raw Craft, here's a link to the full series on YouTube

It's definitely wrong, but in the end it's his life, which he has to live. I don't agree that it's selfish. I would look for another word to describe it: tragic, hurtful, regretful, sad, etc. But I can't agree that it's selfish.
Rich or super rich isn't the point. The point is money and fame don't equal fame, in fact, it's usually quite the opposite.
Super rich people also commit suicide, too.Comment

You have to wonder about wealthy men who've travelled everywhere and done everything, at what point does your life turn into a rerun of what you've already done? How many reruns can you watch without eventually wanting to turn off the show?Comment

There can be some of that, obviously, but this guy struggled with heroine addiction for years. That (any addiction really) can fuck you up and cause long term depression. Anyone can be depressed and see life as dark tunnel with no light at the end, thus, not worth living.Comment

I didn't consider how much he's worth, I think it's ultimately inconsequential in suicides except for those truly down on their luck. I stated in the kate spade suicide thread that if I were a billionaire and hadn't given most all my resources to helping people and animals then I'd kill myself too. It's definitely wrong, but in the end it's his life, which he has to live. I don't agree that it's selfish. I would look for another word to describe it: tragic, hurtful, regretful, sad, etc. But I can't agree that it's selfish.

We disagree on selfish acts. no worries. BUT. suicide is a huge massive problem and growing. you know that. We need to stand up to it in every way we can. Being firm about it NOT being OK at all ever is something I feel strongly about. I have reasons for that.Comment

You don't have to be depressed to see life as not worth living. A lot of people have really really aweful shitty lives, a lot. Rich people can have really shitty lives too. There can be some of that, obviously, but this guy struggled with heroine addiction for years. That (any addiction really) can fuck you up and cause long term depression. Anyone can be depressed and see life as dark tunnel with no light at the end, thus, not worth living.
Someone like Anthony Bourdain who has done so much good work at some point might look at themselves and think I've done everything I've ever wanted to do and I've done it over and over again what more do I have to offer? Maybe he was just tired and bored with life? Maybe we'll find out more about his mindset soon I'm curious. Sucks he's gone he was truly unique, kind & giving.Comment
