China Said to Offer President Trump a $200 Billion Cut in U.S. Trade Deficit

Quote:
China has offered President Donald Trump a $200 billion reduction in its annual trade surplus with the U.S. by increasing imports of American products and other steps, said a Trump administration official.

China made the offer during talks in Washington this week as Chinese Vice Premier Liu He visited to try to resolve a trade dispute, the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity. Liu met with Trump Thursday afternoon at the White House. The official didn’t describe the U.S. response.

U.S. officials conveyed the president’s goal for a fair trading relationship with China and the two sides agreed to continue the discussions on Friday, the White House said in a statement. China’s Ministry of Commerce and the State Council Information Office didn’t initially respond to requests for comment.

A $200 billion reduction in the U.S. trade gap with China by 2020 was on a list of demands the Trump administration made earlier this month as Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin led a delegation to Beijing. The U.S. merchandise trade deficit with China hit a record $375 billion last year.

The U.S. had earlier made additional demands, including a halt to subsidies and other government support for the Made in China 2025 plan that targets strategic industries from robotics to new-energy vehicles. China had made its own demands, including giving equal treatment to its investment, and warned U.S. companies may be excluded from measures to open its economy.

A deal to cut the deficit, if confirmed, “is good news for market sentiment,” said Dariusz Kowalczyk, senior emerging-market strategist at Credit Agricole SA in Hong Kong. “That said, China would suffer pressure on GDP growth as a result and would need to boost domestic demand and debt in the economy through monetary easing and allowing more credit.”

The yuan could weaken on the news given expectations for a deterioration of China’s balance of payments, while Chinese government bond yields may come under downward pressure, said Kowalczyk.

U.S. is putting new tariffs on hold while negotiating with China, Mnuchin says

Quote:
The Trump administration had proposed a cut in the deficit of $200 billion or more, and on Friday, Larry Kudlow, Trump's director of the National Economic Council, had indicated that Beijing had agreed to import "at least $200 billion" more in U.S. goods.

On Sunday, Kudlow backed away from that figure, saying that "maybe I got ahead of the curve." He also appeared to cast doubt on whether the threat of tariffs had been eased. "I don't think we're at that stage yet," he said on CBS' "Face the Nation."

https://www.wsj.com/articles/mnuchin...ina-1526833109

Quote:
The battling statements come one day after the U.S. and China ended talks in Washington to reduce trade tensions. The talks were led by Mr. Mnuchin, but Mr. Lighthizer and Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross were also on the U.S. negotiating team.

After two days of negotiations, the U.S. failed to get China to commit to reducing the U.S. trade deficit with China by at least $200 billion, a top U.S. goal. Mr. Mnuchin said on “Fox News Sunday” that “we have an agreement with China that they will substantially agree” to trade deficit reduction, although the statement put out by the two sides after the talks contained no specific numerical targets.

Left hand doesn't seem to know what the right hand is doing.

Balance of trade with China will increase in America and the worlds favour naturally because China does not have the resources to cater to their own growing population.

During this flirting fragment in time where the USA concedes power and hands it to China there's sure to be a few conflicts

Past 3 weeks China has moved weapons to its man made islands and moved their equitant of the B52 nuke bombers in to the South China sea.

Trumps reaction... " But Hillary's emails!! "

.. open your mind.

The only real way to fight it or slow it, is to partner with other countries to reduce your reliance on China, and to ensure especially with agricultural products that your doing your utmost ensure the production of those products is environmentally sound. China has enough pollution and disease, they will scrap imports on a whim because of them.

Protect the product, trade with others, two things trump has specifically wound back and scrapped, the only two things that would of stopped the raise of China, with of course the exception of.. WAR.

Interesting times...

Its not bad, its just that China already realises that unless American companies are making and selling in China in the near future, there going to be fucked because they need the products.

It's GOOD that Trump is pushing this process forward faster, just understand what it is that's being pushed. China the consumer and USA the manufacturer.

Meanwhile Xi moves his armies in to the South China sea.

trump created exactly 0 new customers for american goods...at a first glance the 200bil deficit reduction looks good but in reality it is just a promise of rearranging the deck chairs on a sinking ship...

lets for example look at semiconducters...now china will buy more from the USA because of trump but at the same time it will buy less from south korea...now south korea has less $...south korea will buy less from others, USA included, because of this...

it is like a ship has 12 holes and is taking in water but you have only 10 fingers and your dick...you may remove one finger from one hole and plug another but your situation has not improved

Fortunately, another ship has been readied. How are you going to get the people that are afraid of swimming over to it?

you think sk will do without shit they need from USA and China (you left them out of your little vindictive scenario) to get even with US and China ..... you really are uneducated, and emotional, like a little orphan girl. run along little orphan girl.

there is no vindictive scenario...china now buys semiconducters from the USA and not s.korea because of trump...now s.korea has less money, no discussion about this, and s.korea now, in turn, has less purchasing power, and this means they will buy less shit from the USA...there is no "getting even"...they now have less $...people who have less $$ tend to look for cheaper shit to buy, instead of expensive shit...guess who makes expensive shit?

trump created 0 new buyers...he just rearranged the deck chairs on a sinking ship and is cherry picking the results of this...he will report on the good things but ignore the bad...I am just putting things in proper perspective...

again, only an uneducated emotional little girl would think that SK would shoot themselves in the foot because china buys semiconductors from USA. SK won't eat food because China buys from the USA. dolt.

You also fail to grasp the current events in the semiconductor industry. Just like an emotional uneducated little girl who was bounced around from orphanage to orphanage.

I fully understand that a little girl doesn't get that SK won't harm themselves by not importing the necessities it does simply because they're not making as much money off semiconductors. I also understand that little girls don't know that China already started knocking off SK semiconductors with plans to take over the market beginning back in 2014.

"Korea was the United States' 7th largest goods export market in 2016.

U.S. goods exports to Korea in 2016 were $42.3 billion, down 2.7% ($1.2 billion) from 2015. U.S. exports to Korea are down 2.8% from 2011 (pre-FTA). U.S. exports to Korea account for 2.9% of overall U.S. exports in 2016.

The top export categories (2-digit HS) in 2016 were: machinery ($6.1 billion), electrical machinery ($5.3 billion), aircraft ($5.2 billion), optical and medical instruments ($2.9 billion), and vehicles ($2.2 billion).

U.S. total exports of agricultural products to Korea totaled $6.2 billion in 2016, our 5th largest agricultural export market. Leading domestic export categories include: beef & beef products ($1.1 billion), corn ($865 million), fresh fruit ($389 million), prepared food ($370 million), and pork & pork products ($365 million)."
https://ustr.gov/countries-regions/j...rea-apec/korea

"In March, Premier Li Keqiang named semiconductors as the top priority of the 10 industries China wants to foster in its "Made in China 2025" initiative. But China's ambitions were already clear in 2014 when it launched the National Integrated Circuit Industry Investment Fund -- better known as the Big Fund -- in 2014 with 138 billion yuan ($21.9 billion) in seed capital, which it hoped would turbocharge investment from local governments and the private sector. The Big Fund is in its second phase of fundraising for at least 150 billion yuan. Credit Suisse estimates China's total investment to be around $140 billion.

China wants to end its reliance on foreign technology -- its annual imports of $260 billion worth of semiconductor-related products have recently risen above its spending on oil. It also wants to move its manufacturing sector to higher-value products."

forcing china to buy from you, and not from your other trade partners, does not improve your situation any, because your trade partners will ultimately have less money...you can pretend to not understand this all you want, everybody else understands this perfectly...

try and get somebody to explain it to you?

I know you have no idea what you are talking about.

even a stoner can see your anti-Americanism permeates your posts, thoughts, views, daydreams, nightmares, entire life. et al, etc, on & on.

it's clear even to all GFYers that you have an anti-American agenda and your credibility on discussing things is zilch because of that.

174.000$ debt per taxpayer and rising...you can keep trying to feel better about others being in debt, but one day or the other, the debt will come due...it always does...you are looking at 250.000$ per taxpayer after trump...oh and you did not war for a while put another 10 trillion to that

so yeah...you are doing baller...

I don't feel good about anybody being in debt, you're ignorant.

I am confident that America is not the equivalent to the Titanic, as the ignorant suggest.
