Some WEIRD shit going on with Bank of America & Porn Sites

Two months in a row now i've tried to use my ATM check card and eventhough i know theres plenty of loot in my account it was denied. So when i got home i checked my voice mail and there was a message from B of A (both times).

It was the Consumer Protection Department.

They said "we randomly monitor customers accounts for activity that appears fraudulent and contact the account owners to make sure they are the ones in posession of the card and making the transactions."

I've only boughten 3 memberships to a paysite in the past year and it was just to research sites i was promoting.

Well, the first time they asked me about WIPIFRIENDS and PAYCOM... ???
Immediately i was concerned because obviously this department has been told to monitor any transactions from those companies.

Then today it happened again... guess what they asked me about??

A $3.95 paycom trial membership i bought yesterday at one of siccash's sites.

WTF is going on ?

That is some weird shit and i don't think i'm going to be using Paycom anytime soon for my paysites in the future.

Anybody ever had this happen? Everytime i buy from Paycom B of A is gonna temporarily suspend my card until they get my authorization or what?

it's freaky, i even asked the guy today if this is going to happen every month to me or what? he said that it is completely random and shouldnt happen again but crap 2 times now. i would be bummed of all of my paysite customers were getting called and asked about pornsite charges. especially since forgetting about rebills is what makes webmasters money in the long run.

I have plenty of balance in my account and have certainly never charged back. But I get rejected at every Paycom site I try to join (for research purposes), fuck 'em I guess.

Have you tried to use the card to buy a membership to just anyold adult site out there??? Maybe they are onlu calling on porn sites. And if that is so, you may want to contact an attorney!!! UNless they notify their card holders that they will not allow charges to adult sites, due to charge backs or what ever, Then they have no right to keep you from using your money any way you choose!!!

45 minuites later I get call from credit card company asking me if I charged $1 to paycom, I said yes, they tell me they can't approve the charge, I said what are you talking about, there's something like $3000 opne on the card, they say they do not allow their card to be used for porn purchase!!!!
New rule in effect since march 1st... They say, if Itry to use card for more porn, they'll cancel my account with prejudice

I posted about B and A a while ago, I ran into problems with my card being rejected at several adult sites and I had plenty of funds to cover the trials.

I ended up talking to the bank, they never called me. They told me that some sites are questionable expecially if they had chargebacks with them (I know the bank manager and she knows what i do)

She of course wouldn't give me any specifics but she did hint around that certain sites (and I guess not just adult) are on hit/black lists at certain banks

Visa calls it the Falcon system. Mastercard has something similar.

It's a fraud detection system that monitors accounts for suspicious transactions. Transactions that have a higher rate of fraud/chargebacks then regular transactions.

These include merchants in the 5967 category code (which includes, but isn't limited to) third party processors.

They also monitor automated systems (payphones, automated gas pumps, movie theatre ticket dispensers, etc). Usually, a card thief will test the card in these systems to see if it's still valid.

Electronics stores are also monitored. So are liquor stores.

Transactions done abroad are also monitored.

Things like large/multiple declines are also monitored (for example, you only have $200 available but transactions are attempted for $2k, $3k or the same transaction is repeated multiple times).

If you're in a store and it happens, the card isn't declined, it's reffered. The merchant's terminal says "Call issuing bank". A quick call to your bank to say it's you and they'll put it through.

The system detects based on your account history. If internet charges are rare, an paysite membership may be "falconed". If you've never gone out of town and all of a sudden, hundreds of dollars are spent across the world, you might be falconed. If you only do small transactions and then you attempt a transaction for a large sum, you might be falconed.

In all cases, a simple call to your bank "unblocks" your card. At many banks, they can set up your account to bypass this system temporarily or permanently. For example, if you're going to Europe for 2 weeks, let your bank know. Or if you're putting a large charge on, let them know. Or like jimmyf did, they can bypass it completely. Only problem is it leaves you open to fraud, and they might hold you liable if they can prove the system could have prevented it.

I've had my biz account with BofA for over three years now. I purchase content, domains, software, books, movies, ETC ETC ETC. online and ALWAYS HAVE.

Last month I got calls two days in a row asking about various purchases. They said it was totally random and it appears that I reacted in the same way that many of you did....how the hell can it be random if it happens to me two days in a row out of over 1000 days that I've had this account?

I can see the banks point though. In most cases it just sounds like they are looking out for you (and them).

I've actually had my wifes debit card used by some guy in Turkey who purchased domains, paid for hosting, bought porn memberships to get his referral money etc.. Over $2000 in all he spent that the bank reimbursed me for.

B&A as a matter of fact.

Actually B of A gives me no trouble. They did suspend one of my accounts after our little binge in Vancouver, but that also included several nights stay of multiple hotel rooms at the Four, and dinner for 30 people at Fortes.

I talked to them on the phone when I got home and the card was back on about 10 minutes later...

They've never kept me from joining a porn site, they don't question my wires either.

And I don't think that Paycom processes for ifriends, though I could be wrong.

I stopped using them years ago. And they came down to Florida and took over Barnett Banks which used to be so great and customer service oriented. Once B of A took over it was all downhill.

I use BofA and buy many different porn memberships and online items and have never had them call and ask me what was up.

On every major processor and sites like babenet, ifriends, etc.

The only time they killed my card is shortly after I moved back to the states and drove half way across the country. They called my cell phone to make sure it was me that was creating the charges.
