The Screw Over
So for just under 2 years I have been running a Tube website, when I first got started I contacted a number of Sponsors to promote their Content. Normally how it works between Sponsors and Webmasters is the Sponsor provides Promo Content, and in return you provide them leads (aka Traffic) which you can convert to sales. This is done through placing Sponsors Ads around and on the promo videos they provide, in some cases you may just place a text link or a Button linking back to Sponsor.
Just after a year of starting out our website started to take off, we started receiving more traffic than the shared hostgator server could handle. So we decided to upgrade to a dedicated server that could handle our traffic.
Soon after we upgraded we needed to upgrade our TUBE CMS from PHP VIBE to KVS, the reason we changed cms was so we can have the abilitty to upload videos via Dump FIles, rather than cropping our own videos and then upoading them one by one (which was a very un-productive and time consuming process).
When I got up to one of our Major Sponsors, they told me that if I wanted any content in a Dump File they could arrange that for me but only under one condition. That condition was to place one of their Ads next all of my websites videos, even on other sponsors videos.
At that time when they told me this I was outraged, so I put in a GFY Thread asking you guys what you think. Link to that thread is here - http://gfy.com/webmaster-q-and-fucki...cceptable.html
Many of you said to name and shame and others said that it isnt fair , but with them being one of the Major Sponsors I did not name or shame nor did I stop promoting their content. The reason was that our website consisted of alot of there Content and we where keen on continuing on promoting their content.
So we agreed to place one of there Ads next all videos including other Sponsors, even though we knew this was totally unfair.
So fast forward many many months and one of our Sponsors sees a foreign Ad next to there video that isn't there's. What do they do ? they tell me to remove it asap or they will DMCA me (Which they have every right to). I tell them that one of my Major Sponsors requested that I place one of there Ads next all videos or they will not provide me content.
So now at that time I was basically fucked, so I tell my Major Sponsor through a number of skype messages the situation about how the other sponsor wants me to remove their Ads from there Video Pages or they DMCA me.
I waited a few days but never got a response, I did not even follow up because of how rediculous this whole thing was. Why am I asking them if I can remove there Ads from another Sponsors Videos, it just sounded rediculous. So I removed the Major Sponsors Ads and placed the other Sponsors Ads on there own videos.
Almost half a year passes and its now Febuary 2018 and suddenly my major Sponsor realises there ads are not on this other particuar Sponsors videos.
Here is what they said to me on Skype
Major Sponsor -
"you still there?
you removed our ads?
why did I even give you videos....
i thought we had a deal....
i trusted you
there is none of our ads on there"
Me -
"Just saw messages
I had a big issue with ******, they where going to dmca me
I had no choice but to only place there ads on there videos, I had sent *** some messages on skype about this many many months ago but he never responded
Please contact **** at ********, he is my Affiliate manager, he will answer any questions your team may have. And I'm not a traitor."
Major Sponsor -
"I was the first one to send you content
and now you remove my ads when we had a deal"
Me -
"Please contact my affiliate manager responsible for the videos that don't have ur ads here at ************ "
As you can see the Major Sponsor isn't concerned about me getting DMCA or that it is wrong for them to have there Ads on other Sponsors Videos.
This is what they say next -
Major Sponsor -
"look if you put up a text link like ***** did there will be no issues with anyone" (Sends me a Screenshot of another website with there text link)
Me -
"I understand, but this sponsor that I am dealing with is very strict, they wanted all and any ad space on there videos to be theres"
"But I just wanted to say, ******* is supposed to be a Affiliate program, so content should be provided for the purpose of promotion, and not for the purpose of providing all ad space that a website may have on other sponsors videos. I can understand that ********* videos must have ********** ads. But on other sponsors videos sounds illogical."
Major Sponsor -
"this is made so that you can make money
not to just give content away and not have money in return for both parties
when we first talked we made a deal and I keep feeding you videos and have *******
upload videos this is time and money
so in return we want to make you money
you understand?"
As you can see thay dont make any sense and they keep saying that they are trying to make me money by placing there Ads on other sponsors videos.
I was fed up with there shenanigens so I said that it's time to renegotiate a deal, only to be told this -
Major Sponsor -
"look **** and I have discussed and we do find it weird with ********** but if its how they will run it then its fine we would normally ask you to remove all our videos but since we have been with you since the beginning I have one little thing that I really need you to do and we can move on and keep our business growth together"
I then asked what that may be and they said for me to place there Dating Website in my Main Menu Tab.
This was totally going around what I asked, which was to re negotiate a deal which was to place only there Ads on there videos and not on other Sponsors videos.
When pushed for a answer this is what they said -
Major Sponsor -
"look this is not something we normally do we have been updating videos for you from ******** + I send you content rather than you cutting videos of your own... these all cost time and money this is why we approve the ******** (Other Sponsor) to have only their ads for the rest we think its a little push I think we go the extra mile more than any other products out there to make your life much much easier"
So basically they want there Ads to continue running on other Sponsors videos and I lucky I am being given the Pass for the one Sponsor who threatened to DMCA me. In addition they would like me to give up a Main Menu Tab Space for there darting site.
And so you now can see the SCREW OVER that I have received from this so called "Major Sponsor"
Either I continue to promote their Content and give up other Sponsors Ad Space or Remove al of there videos which my website mostly consists of.
I know GFY has this Major Sponsors people on here and they are gonna see it, but I am left with no other option but to go public about this total unfairness.
Please guys let me know what do you think of all this, what should I do ?
