well after you rip the movies

1_ use DVD2Avi to convert the DVD files to d2v files
2_ use VFAPIConv to make fake AVI files that you can open with any video editing programs (Pinnacle DV Studio, Vegas Video and such)
3_ then convert to MPEG using the latter, or TPMGENC or Virtual Dub

you can skip some of the steps there if you want
basically this guide shows you how to copy everything including subtitles, chapters, shit etc.

and since you aint making DIVX files, you really aint' gotta fuck with the sound.
cuz you'd have to turn the ac3 sound files into wav before finally converting to MP3, then synch em up with the vid files.

Its time consuming too and a resource hog, no matter how great your system is, Expect to not use your computer anywhere from 4 to 15 hours depending on how big the dvd is. And make sure you have ALOT of hardrive space and have the rentals for atleast a week

AMD 2.4Gz, 80ggi drive, 1024ddr 333Mhz... I can handle it..
if not, I'll use my 1gig as a dedicated dvd ripping machine

DVDx 2.2
Rips from the dvd through your RAM so you don't need large hard drive space. It took me 7 hours to rip..erm I mean 'backup' Minority Report(7.4gig disc) in to a 650meg file.
I could still browse and run winamp and I've only got a 1gig Athlon
