IS Conan the Barbarian the Notebook for guys?

Just watched it again with my oldest son. Was his first time, he instantly loved it from start to finish.
IF i play the Anvil of Crom theme song, he knows exactly what is up.

We will watch the Destroyer soon, but i do not remember it being as good.

What are some other must see movies for guys?

Anything by arnold from the 80s and 90s. I think i watched Commando on VHS a 1000 times when i was a kid, i loved it. Predator, Terminator, Total Recall, True Lies... All exceptionally good movies to this day. The Rambo movies were also my favourites as well as JVCD movies.

That's why i can't believe the kids nowadays like that Marvel crap. Compared to the movies i mentioned... Well there is no comparison.

Whenever I need to get something done, I put on the masterpiece Basil Poledouris score. Actually, I'm about to do that right now.

Rocky movies are up there, shitty towards the end. Tango and Cash is a gloriously ridiculous 80's testosterone movie and full of greatness. Die hards, lethal weapons a few van dam and segal movies are a decent secondary for action.

I can't even believe we have found a common ground on movies... it's so rare... hehe

I don't hate marvel movies but yeah, no comparison, no doubt.

Conan is an ultimate movie - the music from Basil Poledouris, fantastic attention to detail. It has been this good since John Millius and Oliver Stone had a lot of freedom creating it.

The follow up, destroyer, was already made into an R 13 rating in order to fit a larger audience, and it took its toll.

I agree that many of the the 80's and early 90's movies from the golden era of action movie with Arnold (pretty much everything from 1983 - 1991), Sly, Chuck, even some early Steven Seagal, some with Van Damme (loved the Universal Soldier) or not so well known "Action Jackson" from 1988 with Carl Weathers may be a great match.

John Carpenter is fantastic, I also recommend to check the work from Walter Hill

                  Like the Warriors for example:

                  The Warriors (1979) - IMDb

one of the movies I had to buy me when in US.

I re-watched many of those in the past couple of years and some have an excellent production, many definitely aged well.

kind of sacrilege to mention movies with swayze and cruise in a thread involving arnold, but Roadhouse, top gun and the outsiders shouldn't be counted out as guy movies really.

anyone get into the ninja movies in the early to mid 80's? I was a kid during this time but I loved that shit. American Ninja was probably one of my favourites.

Saw Predator on TV recently and it still holds up as a great movie. Good score, great directing by John McTiernan and it's still one of the best tough guy movies to ever be filmed.

Indeeed, Predator holds up very well.

The follow up with Danny Glover is rather overlooked, but also excellent in its own way, since there was no Arnold on the scene they took a different angle and that movie has some amazing pace.
