Hi Angel

I have been involved with the Adult Industry since I was 19 (family business) and I fell into online porn about 4 years ago... It happened completely by accident... It all started when I was managing an Escort Service and we had our first 4 sites built by a local guy. When they where finished I started trying to find ways of promoting the new sites and I discovered Sponsors, Toplists and Link Lists .... After I made the big discovery, I tried to contact our designer to modify our site to include recipicol links and sponsor links... We'll that's where it all started 2 months later without any luck contacting our developer (He fell off the face of the Earth) I went and purchased my first peice of web software (it was something by Corel, just can't remember what it's called now!)... I made the changes to the pages myself and took over the webhosting account.... Now that I had the basics of the software I was using, I went ahead and built my first site... I think I spent 2 days on building it (for the Escort Service) and it turned out really well!! The next step for me was getting some Toplists setup, mainly to promote our own sites and they just took off and the sponsor checks where getting bigger and bigger!

That's when I took the next step, I started reading sponsor forums and tutorials and started building free and avs sites - my checks just kept on growing and I just kept on building (BTW - I love this work!)...

Anyway, that's basically how I got involed....

I remember reading somewhere about 6 months ago that the industry actually has more women than men! You'll find that women are less likely to talk about and the girls don't seem to hit the boards as much

I can't really give you any advice on the business or who to trust unless I have an idea what area of the business you are involved in... There's different rules for all the different area's in online porn, so if you can be more specific, I'll gladly give you some.....

having been a woman on this side of the industry since about 1998 I guess I would just say never ask for special treatment because you are a woman - that drives me nuts when I see women doind that - and similarly never let them push you aside just because you are a woman.

In reality the same rules that go for guys for us...do a good job and hold your own and you will still be around.

Another woman in the biz--been doing free sites for a couple of years but feel like I'm still a newbie -- I tend to spend more time over at TNB, cuz most the time, I'm too busy to read through the drama over here! LOL!

Goodness knows I most certainly never claimed to be a lady. I'm a bitch, a chick, a woman, a female but never, EVER a lady.

I'd be pretending to be something I wasn't and I'd be going against everything I've believed my whole life :P

The most important thing to do is to laugh and have a lot of fun - which i can see you have been doing.

the day of the lady has all but disappeared

being a woman in this biz means you have to be just as tough and slick as the next woman or man!

i got into biz back in 97-98 by putting up an aol homepage for my girlfriend where she could sell items, etc... needless to say aol wasnt too happy about it and all our accounts were canned. it did take them quite a while to figure out what was going on; she made a killing and we split everything.

we then moved into bigger sites; we learned html, learned how to use a digital camera and camcorder and when i tell you that the stuff we put online would be an embarassment to the adult biz, trust me BUT we did really well.

fast forward to a year or so ago and we (and our biz) were interviewed and written up in a major woman's magazine. talk about taking a big step! we went from not knowing how to crop an image to having people want to interview us regarding the adult industry! that was a proud moment and i have credit it all to a close friend of mine for if it weren't for his incessent nagging, bitching and idea floating, i would not be the person i am today. although i am sure he realizes he helped bring out the monster in me

this biz should be looked at like an other biz. you work hard, play your hand right and you can get ahead. think that because you are a woman and have a god given right to be handed something, and you will get no where fast. we were given assets and a mind for a reason! thank you god...heheheh

I first got online in 1995 and for the first 5 years was just an observer. In 2000 I started my own web based phone sex company after having worked for others for awhile.

I still haven't done regular "porn", but that's why I'm on this board. My sites are pretty busy (not actual traffic in terms of what most people HERE would think is traffic, but we have very good regular business) and I'm looking to get some extra cash from promoting sites and/or selling items.

I hear guys say this all the time so I think this is the same for both sexes...it just takes a LOT OF HARD WORK. The first two years I was in it, I easily worked an 80 week. And a LOT of those hours were in the middle of my sleep time! lol

The last year or so I've finally been able to take some time off and really enjoy things.

Unfortunately, there are very few people who can be trusted in my experience. It's actually kinda funny when you meet someone new win the industry and you can tell they're just fishing for info about your biz.

On the other hand, I've met quite a few very interesting, helpful, innovative and ethical people in the industry and my business wouldn't have been the same without those connections.

I see a lot of women come on to boards that are either trying to act too much like one of the boys, try to make too much of a big deal about the fact that they are a woman or try to act like the original ball buster.

The girls seemed to have covered most of it.....I would add though, that when I first started, this was the first business I had been in that women were actually on equal footing with the boys. Behind a monitor no one truly knows who or what you are. Gender is inconsequential, at least it is until you go to a show and people see who/what you are. But usually by that time you have been in the biz long enough that people know what you are capable of etc etc.

I was surprised to see so many women in the Adult Internet biz. When I first started I had this image in my mind of the types of people I'd be working with......the fat, old, bald guy sitting at his computer in his basement wacking off with one hand and making sites with the other......

you know what sort of drives me nuts about webMISTRESSES? so many feel the need to make sure we understand on a regular basis that they are women by telling us so and also lots more cute remarks that make them seem younger and less serious than perhaps they are.

it sure doesn't make for lots of respect of that person as a business owner/operator. and if the people on the boards are people you do business with, having them take you seriously couldn't hurt.

i rarely bring my gender into what i do. i'm here to work. i love my job, although i'm indifferent to porn - but i love the game of marketing.

i've never had the slightest desire to show my tits online or to other webmasters - when people ask me to, i feel a little less respect for them. i'm not content.

i'm sure there are exceptions, but most guys will take you a lot less seriously if you flirt and tease with them. i'm here to make money.

Ive don't ever consider the issue of my being treated differently because i am a girl.... the only time i ever think about it is when another female brings it up... I used to be my own content.. i had a site i took down because i'd rather be making and marketing sites than being one.. im addicted to the challenge.. and the challenging of seeing if i could have a successful website with me as the content was over... i did it and moved on....

I dont mind showing people my old pics... and i dont mind guys asking... i think this really has no bearing on how someone is going to view you as a webmaster or business person. If you are smart, learn quick and business savvy who cares if you show your tits or not... I have showed a lot more than my tits and if anyone takes me less seriously its of no matter to me. That is what is so great about this business.. we really answer to no one but ourselves.

I completely agree that seeing women or girls or webgirls trying to get ahead by pouring on the sugar and flashing their pics makes me roll my eyes... but on the other hand... thinking that because someone was smart enough to market themselves and make money and make websites is not as respectable as a female marketing bought content or doing customer service for a billing company or working for a big sponsor company is just silly.

I act like myself on and offline... its half tomboy and half girlie... i think gender or getting naked has no bearing on smarts or skill in this business.....

The People that i meet at the convention got to know me...
What they think or the impression they got from me I dont have any power over that and it wont stop me from persuing my goals... Many have given me good advice (Thank you) I meet real people... I don't care if they were Successfull or not in the biz I respected each and everyone of them as a person. People were there to socialize, learn and have fun... Beleive me they were not Constipated and judgemental at all... and they know how to rock... I won't judge them just becasue some of them got a little wild in a party!...

I am who I am online or off line as well and I dont pretend to be anyone but me...

My partners found me, beleived in me, and now I am in buisness.. I do have a family and a profession (RN) So I am learing to Jive all of that together...

I use my own pics to built my site. I am learing HTML and FTP and sorts of shit about the BIZ ..... My head is fucken spining and saturated with information now.. ... But I am well serownded ..I have a great team. But I insist on learing as much as I can so I can be more autonomus and not just be behind the camera...

I have what it takes to make it in the biz... I beleive in myself... I have initiative and have a positive attitude and the personnality... I am a whole package not just tits and pussy...

Yes I am stuburn, I ask question even if they seem stupid sometimes... I am not afraid of critics... Thats how I learn ..Try, make mistakes and learn from them ! I'm a survivor...I love challenges ...
