I acquired some dry ice today and thought it might be fun to put some in a sealed water bottle. I had heard the expanding gas causes the bottle to explode.
So I chucked it outside and waited.. nothing happened. I could see the bubble inside but it stopped bubbling. The bottle had expanded but I couldn't see by how much so I went to take a look.
I picked it up, the bottle had swelled a fair bit. I noticed a bit of dry ice inside and stupidly gave it a little swill.
The resulting explosion was the loudest noise I have ever heard and it damn near damaged by ear drum. Part of the bottle smashed into the side of my ear. Luckily my head was turned to the side or I might have lost an eye.
Probably won't do it again in a hurry.
