What he does in his own time is his business. The only reason for these costs are all the hangers on and secret service that need paying plus travel to and from an event.
Unfortunately a president can't fly economy.

Every time the President travels, it costs a lot of money. A LOT of money. It's not like you and I getting on a plane and getting away for a weekend. Before the President travels the Secret Service sends an advance team including multiple airplanes AND his limo - and in some cases Marine 1... Then factor in back ups. Then factor in White House staff, assistants, military advisers, secret service detail....

What he does on his own time costs the US tax payers tens of millions of dollars.

This president promised to treat government "Like a business" but in a business you answer to shareholders. Instead, the President is treating his office like a damn piggy bank.

OK, I'm definitely NOT a Trump fan, but I try to be fair.

Early on, after his inauguration, when the comparison was made to Obama concerning golfing, I remember hearing a pundit say the main difference is that Obama would play golf as a break from politics, where Trump uses golf as a venue for politics.

I'll leave it to the cheerleaders and haters to fight it out over whether that statement has merit or not.
