if you're not in priority or business, why not wait until the line dies down before boarding?
no need to deal with the "gate lice" (had to look it up on urban dictionary) and it's not like you're gonna lose your seat

The issue is not losing your seat, its that most airlines run out of overhead storage for carry on luggage. Which means you end up having to check your bag. If the fucker who bring 6 pieces of carry-on followed the rules there would be room and it follows no need to rush to get to your set. I fly 6-10 times a month, when i used to fly cattle class i always had this issue, its worth the extra for business to avoid these issues and not have to sit next to some smelly fat ass who continually munches food during the flight.
