Business Domain Termination Fee !!!!! Is this legal ?

Never see something like this before ... I just want to transfer away to namecheap, were I keep most of my domains ....

TERMINATE CONTRACT & UNLOCK FOR TRANSFER

Please note this is the only method available to obtain the Authorization (EPP) Code and transfer this domain name away from Domains Manager.

As agreed by the Registrant when this domain name was first registered, the Domain Contract must be terminated and all fees paid before a domain name can be unlocked or transferred.

If you choose to terminate your Domain Contract now, our system has calculated the balance owing as follows:

    TERMINATION STATEMENT
    BALANCE OF FEES OWING

Termination Date Tuesday, September 12, 2017
    Domain Name condxxxxxxx.com
    Registrant Me me
    Transaction Termination of Domain Contract
    Termination Fee USD$59.00
    Security Verification USD$ 0.00
    Unlock Domain Name USD$ 0.00
Obtain International Auth (EPP) Code USD$ 0.00
    TOTAL DUE USD$59.00

    IMPORTANT NOTE

This amount is only payable if you terminate your Domain Contract now.

Your domain name is not currently due for renewal so we recommend you click here to return to your Account Home Page.
We regret that our Customer Service Team are unable to waive this amount for terminating customers. Full details of fees and procedures are clearly set out in our Service Agreement and Fee Schedules as agreed when the domain name was first registered. If you have any questions, we recommend you consult these sources.

If you decide to proceed now, you can make payment and complete the Terminate and Unlock Process by submitting the order form below.

Remind them that according to ICANN rules, they must unlock the domain and issue the transfer code.

If that doesn't go anywhere, take it to ICANN...

Reg a throw away domain and see if you agreed to this - if you did then say good bye to your money - if you didn't then do the transaction and try a charge back on your card - assuming that's how you paid - it might work or you might lose out - better than nothing...

Usually to unlock a domain and transfer it, from what I have seen, you are required to buy one years renewal from the current registrar -- then the domain can be transfered to a new registrar. The registration does advance into the next year at the new registrar. So, you do get the renewal credit at the REGISTRY the lessor of that name to you -- the leasee. Or, beneficial rights owner.

To 'terminate' you just do not pay and the name eventually may go back to the registry.

He's trying to transfer and they are essentially trying to charge him a transfer fee. It looks like they are holding the domain hostage and won't give out the transfer code until he pays $59. As long as there is an adequate amount of time left on the current registration, he does not need to add a year at current registrar.

I would contact Joker first and then ICANN and get some clarification as to what steps to take to let them know you won't be paying that fee. Problem the domain is expiring today, so you may not have enough time to get the answer you need.

If you are over 30 days from expiration, then you will probably have to go the ICANN complaint route. Had to do this several years ago with a registrar that was holding about 50 domains of mine hostage and wanted a $50 domain termination fee.
It was a pain in the ass but it worked.

Renew the domain and transfer later.. You are trying to transfer on the expiration date. I think most are now 5 days prior to expiry.

When I first read this I read it as you were transferring away from Namecheap and they were doing this.

I went and got my auth code for one of my domains from Namecheap and didn't encounter any issues so had to come back and re-read.

There is no fine print . They have a link on thre TERMINATION CONTRACT page, but it loops back to the homepage .

you're probably better off to pay it and move on. complaining to icann might not result in anything. i've done it before and got no response.

Registrar URL: Domain Name Registrations at Joker.com - Getting and managing domain names has never been so easy
                                          namescheap does not do this...

I transferred an url only 3 weeks ago to another registrar. I went into the domain, applied for the key, got the key, updated the new registrar with it and within 10mins, it had been moved.

As usual, I had to pay for the move, but giving a new year onto the domain.

An update on this outgoing situation ...

I contacted 3 times Joker.com ( the registrar ) by email and got no answer
                                            I did NOT re-contact domains-manager.com .

I go today to pay that fee to get the domain out of there , but now I get this :

I just emailed them , but this situation is ridicilous . If it is not adressed , I will have to go to Icann.
                                            All this for a domain....
I know that Asspimple is stoopid ... As he says, it is a FACT !

But I can't figure out how he can breathe or type , at the same time ....
