Spaceweather Glossary: The Classification of X-ray Solar FlaresScientists classify solar flares according to their x-ray brightness in the wavelength range 1 to 8 Angstroms. There are 3 categories: X-class flares are big; they are major events that can trigger planet-wide radio blackouts and long-lasting radiation storms. M-class flares are medium-sized; they can cause brief radio blackouts that affect Earth's polar regions. Minor radiation storms sometimes follow an M-class flare. Compared to X- and M-class events, C-class flares are small with few noticeable consequences here on Earth.Comment

Solar Flares, also called CME's, contain really strong charged particles. When they strike atoms in the atmosphere, they eject electrons, and when this happens we see light. Particularly, the Aurora Borealis. https://www.space.com/15139-northern...cts-sdcmp.html
Sometimes this can lots of radio static in the AM band, and even power blackouts. There was a big power blackout on the east coast in 1989 caused by this. https://www.nasa.gov/topics/earth/fe..._darkness.htmlComment

I just finished covering my solar panels and disconnected them from the MPPT charge controller until the impact tomorrow.
Anyone wanting to take some precaution should protect your electronics.

Just in case there are any fucking GFY science-denying idiots reading this thread who are shitting their pants right now, just read this:
The hole appears dark because it contains much less solar material and is therefore cooler than the surrounding area. https://www.space.com/33047-nasa-spo...le-in-sun.html
If you still are in disbelief, please sell your computer and go live with the Amish or something.Comment

Are you trying to explain MMGW with solar activity or what? Are we causing holes in the sun now?PLEASE WAIT WHILE BIDEN ADMIN UNINSTALLS ITSELF.....

This is all caused by mankind driving cars.
Just like the hurricanes and anytime we get a real hot summer or real cold winter...

I'm not an expert on this (just started watching the channel for a few months). I believe the M class hit but the X class is suppose to hit tonight. We also just had another X class eruption today. I thought they only took a day or two to get to Earth, but maybe it's 3-4 days. I would like to know what others think about the severity of these solar flares.Comment

If they hit, it could be pretty severe. Like power plants going out, satellites getting fried, radio/cell blackouts, computers short circuit, etc.I'm not an expert on this (just started watching the channel for a few months). I'm just not sure how fast it travels. I guess not at the speed of light (8 mins to reach earth), but this is magnetic radiation waves and solar mass particles, so it could take much longer....Comment
