Okay I've fucked something up...please tell me what I did wrong.

I had an error:
cpu unworkable please check cpu soft menu.

Looked it up on the net mentioned something about overclocking etc.

Anyway went into bios and checked everything, all looks normal...temp is about 55c

I checked the soft menu and wanted to make sure everything was allright I hit the 1500/133 option and saved it to cmos and next thing I know when the system reboots NOTHING.

It sounds like it's booting, but no video nothing..no beeps etc.

any ideas on what I may have fucked up?

I was a sysadmin when mac os8 came out.

My experience mac vs. win was that windows boxes crashed more frequently and had more overall bugs, but whatever was causing the problem could usually be worked out pretty easily. The mac's crashed much less, but when they did it almost always required a complete reinstall of the OS.

Are they still like that?

Sounds similar to a problem I had. Thought it was the video card aswell. But in the end it turned out to be the sound card was dead.

Try swapping one in that you know works.

mmm Toast.

ive used macs for audio since like 94.

most of these pro-pc guys were no where near such tools.

i use both pc and mac for audio now though, i have pcs just for plug ins and midi sequencing, and macs for harddisk recording and multitracking along with TDM plug ins etc... they are both used.

I have worked several patches for Mac OS systems prior to 9.x and I found no problems. Of course, I know almost nothing of windows if compared with my linux and mac knowledge.

Your problem with the bios could be because this:

1) You overklocked the box and the graphics card burned at all
2) You overklocked the box and when you went back you did not clean all the settings (more exactly, bus speeds. Depending on the bios you can change bus speeds for any device plugged to the box, so you need to have them tuned at all when overklocking)
3) Your screen has died.
4) graphics card is unplugged or bad plugged to the mainboard (I think not because if it worked before there is no reason for that)

Solutions:
1) Go to BIOS setup and load BIOS defaults or SETUP defaults. This loads default settings, so all must work with no problems.
2) Try plugging another screen just in case the yours died.
3) Consult a computer mortician (a tech guy)

I'm not a PC expert, but I hope you solve the problem with this.

hahahaha wow those top ten reasons to switch sound like they were written by a blonde lol

it looks good haha

the only one which was good was built on unix but then again win2k stole lots of stuff from unix too so the only diff is the price

In the quest for some extra speed on my new CPU, I set the FSB to 115MHz in my BIOS (up from 100), and rebooted... bzzt! It was like the m/b was dead - no beeps, no BIOS screen, nothing. I had to remove the BIOS battery to reset everything, and get it to start. I won't be repeating that in a hurry.
