An elephant in Namibia trampled and killed a man who was part of a hunting group this past weekend, the Associated Press reported, citing the Namibia Press Agency.

Jose Monzalvez, a 46-year-old from Argentina, was on a private hunting trip 43 miles outside of the small town of Kalkfeld when he was killed on Saturday.

The elephant apparently saw the group of professional trophy hunters ― two of whom were Argentine and three Namibian ― from afar and charged the group before they had time to set up, aim and shoot, Namibian media reported.

Police said Monzalvez had a hunting permit and his family has been notified.

Another man was killed in a similar way in May. Theunis Botha, 51, was leading a hunting expedition in South Africa when he accidentally happened upon a breeding herd of elephants. The elephant cows charged at the group, who fired at them. One elephant was killed and then collapsed on top of Botha, crushing him to death.

I would respect hunters if they tackled big game with their bare hands...I really would...if they are going to charge a grizzly or rhino or elephant and they manage to win, bare handed, then they have my respect no doubt about it...it is still wrong to disturb animals and attack them out of "sport" but hey if they can win with their own strength and do not shoot it from a safe distance then kudos...

but to shoot something that has no concept of hunting or guns or any intention of harming you at all, this is just plain cowardice and malice...I hope he suffered for a long time before he died...

Me too. Can't believe these hunts exist. Good news. This guy was South American. Less Americans and Euros are trophy hunting now because of the anger.

I would like to see all the hunting reserves shut down. Move the animals to zoos and a smaller gated reserve for conservation and study. Burn the rest of the land and use for agriculture. This would stop the hunters and poachers.

Would you guys donate to a gofundme to shut down a hunting area? I would like to shut down the Bubye Valley hunting land. It is called a conservation area, but that is bullshit. We could buy the land and shut it down.
