Huh, funny, was just working on something like that. The fsockopen timeout element doesn't really seem to be working properly though.

Im just using fopen, it seems to be working fine, however I suspect there are a few hosts that don't allow this as the script does freeze on them. They are usually the ones that have popups etc.

Well, I haven't encountered a host yet that didn't allow fopen, but fsockopen gives a bit more versatility. Besides that, if a connection hasn't been established within 10 seconds, a site can go fuck itself. However, for some reason some installations of php ignore that time limit altogether.
