for me its less about performance and more about the style, sound and time those cars came from. camero, chevelle, gto, cuda, charger, etc. these are the kinds of cars i am into. i don't care for sports cars like ferarri and such.

Again someone speaking the truth. I've driven an electric and it feels like I'm inside a child's toy. Plus there's very little road feel and almost no "instinctive communication" between the vehicle and the driver.

An electric car can't match the hard driving style of a gasoline/diesel powered car.
If you do that, you'll drain your battery withing an hour. You can't effectively: drive uphill, heat/AC the car, load it up, etc - all that drains the fuck out of your battery. Have fun recharging several times per day. |

You may want to reconsider one day, because blah blah blah... Like I said earlier, I miss my Camaro. I saw a classic '69 Firebird the other day, all black, for $50,000. If I had the disposable income, I would have bought it. Classic cars are freakin cool...

There is a reason all the manufacturers had to start building ethanol friendly engines in their newer cars just for today's current fuel ratio of "less" than 10% of it being mixed in. Ethanol was the worst scam they ever pushed you can thank George Bush Jr for that one...

Y'all can keep trying. I know how to build a car the proper way. Its not completed yet either. YSI larger blower (supercharger) is getting installed. it makes 650 on 15 psi...its going to be pushing close to 30 by beginning of fall. Currently the worlds highest HP Q50 and I plan on making it a difficult job for anyone to touch that record.

What's the main appeal of electric cars for you guys? All I can think of are numerous downsides and the only potential upside is a warm fuzzy feeling that you are saving the environment not unlike the feeling that vegetarians get.

I randomly bought a Prius, after having one as a rental when I got rear-ended, it was the only car they had left. I was travelling from the OC to LA daily and quickly learned to love that car. So efficient. So quiet. Save tons of $$$ in gas. Holds its ressle value. Thats why I got an electric hybrid, none that saving the world green bullshit.

I on the other hand am enthusiastic about EV's. I see the problems with combustion engines (low efficiency, too much energy lost to heat, too heavy and too many moving parts, etc) vs electric. I think EV's are high tech, and I love all things high tech. Quote:
Of course you can tune them. Geeze. Quote:
Then you need to add an oil cooler and maybe swap the thermostat. Then you change the transmission because the increased tourque is causing it to wear out faster. Next your tires can't stick to the road thanks to the increased speed so you swap them for stickier tires which of course get used up faster too. Etc etc etc. It's simple physics: More energy - less time (more speed) = more heat = faster wear and tear, regardless of the power source. So is Crocket wrong about you? Quote:
Not true. Tesla Motors was incorporated in July, 2003 by Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning, who financed the company until the Series A round of funding. Elon Musk led the Series A round of investment in February, 2004, joining Tesla's Board of Directors as its Chairman. Musk did not build Tesla from the ground up. He was a significant investor to the company a short while after creation. He used his money from the sale of PayPal. With all due respect, you're the one who seems to be getting their facts wrong... Mean magnetic fields ranged from nominally 0.6 to 3.5 µT, compared with nominally 0.4 to 0.6 µT for gasoline vehicles, well within published exposure limits for the general population. (Gasoline cars spew electromagnetic radiation from the spark plugs and generator). The bigger risk to people is of course the pollution they send out the exhaust, but also from the toxic chemicals that are used to make the dashboard and other interior parts of your car. (Always open the windows when you get in your car for a few minutes as sunlight might cause fumes from those chemicals to be released). Quote:

Also there is already this one.. it's electric powered but uses a hydrogen fuel cell to charge the battery. It already has a thousand mile range. Nikola Motor unveils 1,000 HP hydrogen-electric truck with 1,200 mi. range Now this company might actually be on the right track, using hydrogen to keep the battery charged. It will be interesting to see what Musk has coming as well, because he's no dummy. |

Please show me one tuned reliable electric vehicle that doesnt require a charging station directly at the track in order to run its fastest pass. I implore you.

I love the Tesla.
But I'd say that the very thing that makes it so fast is also the thing that takes away from the driver experience. With electric motors there is no need for a transmission. The power goes straight to the wheels so you have full torque at any speed. Super fast! And like I said, I love the Tesla. Drove one at the end of last year (never got to drive the original little roadsters they made). I would own a Tesla in a heartbeat and probably will in the near future. But having said that...I don't think an electric car can ever give a real "car guy" the excitement and feel of a car that a stick shift sports car does. Having to use the clutch and shifting...along with the rumble of the exhaust is just one of the funnest components of driving a sports car. Now automatic transmission cars VS Tesla? I'll take the Tesla every day of the week. Right now my garage is a steroided Jeep Wrangler and a new Mustang I just bought (5.0 V8 engine and 6 speed manual transmission). But I would LOVE to add a Tesla into that mix. I'd probably drive the Tesla every day. And then if I were going out to dinner in the evening it would be the Mustang with the top down. I definitely am NOT anti-electric car at all. |
