First object teleported to Earth's orbit

Chinese researchers have teleported a photon from the Gobi desert to a satellite orbiting five hundred kilometres above the earth.

This is achieved through quantum entanglement, a process where two particles react as one with no physical connection between them.

Hooke Professor of Experimental Physics at Oxford University Ian Walmsley tells the World At One how quantum entanglement works and how teleportation could be utilised.

American funded research at the Kavli Institute of Nanoscience of the Delft University of Technology did this many times, the latest in 2015. The Chinese are the first to do it to a sattelite.

It really sucks that we invest years of time, research & money , the Chinese steal our research at almost no expense, and take a little step then publish it as though it's something they've brought to fruition from mind to reality. Fucking thieves. Fuck the Chinese government thieves.

they state that 2 same objects (photons) start to exist in different places

they make a "copy" of the first one and "upload" it to a different place

What a misleading title!

It's a well-known quantum teleportation which has nothing to do with physical objects. It's not like a photon was taken from point A and appeared in point B. Only a quantum state of the photon (e.g. its spin) can be teleported. The state of one physical particle (a photon) to another one.

China didn't create that an international group of scientists from China, UK,US , Canada, Germany & Italy did in 2015.

I'm sure the Chinese did this some time ago its not recent, last year early this, at least

And yeah its not teleportation as I recall one of the commercial viabilities being discussed was communications especially deep space ones. If we can communicate over distance in real time then say building something on mars becomes a lot easier. Here on earth is could be a cell phone that works from anywhere and is secure.

I work mainly now in 3d apps and I'd guess my speciality, what I make the most money in anyway is particle work, so I'm forever researching particle systems for 3d applications. And that brings me in contact with a lot of articles like the one linked, certainly doesn't mean I understand, but its good to read and go.. wow.

That would mean full scale human teleportation would essentially mean committing suicide in one device and a clone of you is made in another..... which would mean that if you remember stepping out of one of those devices, that is how you came into being.

Ive been researching quantum physics and entanglment for a while. I know its alresdy been at a short distance but this is really cool. Dont expect humans to be teletransported anytime soon though!

They are saying that two identical objects start to exist in both places, and that by influencing one, you also influence the other.

It sounds like a "speed of light" copying/replicating. So if you make some change to one, you immediately change the other.
