I have a silly newbie question that I need help on. Please...

Okay, will someone help me for a moment.

I just need to know what exactly is target="_top" ? I mean what does it do? What is the difference between that and just doing a regular link? I know that target="_blank" opens the link in a new page/window, but I am not sure what target="_top" does, therefore, I think I am doing something wrong when it just opens the normal page.

The reason I ask is because on Chokers site, i think the rules say that you have to target="_top" it and I don't know what I am doing wrong.

Anyone? Please help me before I leave this morning.

Thanks in advance ;)

Edited: can't say the I.F. word.

Would there be a simpler answer? I am at the site and they offer a lot of info, but they don't have a search option, so I can look up the subject, I don't know where to begin. What do I call a target="_top" , so that I can look under that topic? I should be leaving in less than 15 minutes, and I wanted to have this solved before I left. Thanks for the great site though, I bookmarked it for future reference.

you can have: base target="_blank"
this will open all links on your page in a new window

adding tag target="_top" overrides it

target="_top" makes sure that the page loads in the current window and that any frames, etc will be broken out of. Say a link sends surfers to your site with a fram, this will make sure that the surfer only sees your site, not the other sites frames .

It basially means it will open a new page, replacing the frames with a single page. So if your in a page made of frames and a link has that target applied to it, the link will open a page in the same browser window which replaces the frames.
