                            Yeah but the aim of the IRA was a political one - they wanted the British out of Northern Ireland. Plus, they usually used to give a warning before detonating any bombs.

                            What we are dealing with now are people brainwashed by some extreme form of religion. It just so happens to be Islam. They have no specific aim apart from to kill as many non-muslims as possible. A very difficult threat to counter.

                                            To be fair, Theresa May did her best to get rid of him but kept getting thwarted by the ECHR before finally kicking him out. Hence why she wants Britain to withdraw from the jurisdiction of the ECHR.
