Discuss what's fucking going on, and which programs are best and worst. One-time "program" announcements from "established" webmasters are allowed. |

Can anyone tell me what the fuck is happening here?
When I go to any of my pages on my resource site there are usually two or three words that show on my screen as having yellow lines under them like a hyperlink. When I place my mouse over them I get some "alt" text like Expedia or Get your domain for $17.95 blah blah blah. I checked my html pages and there is nothing that i've accidentally inserted in there does anyone know if there is some sort of robot or page changing thing that has the ability to go into your page and insert hyperlinks or is it just something that has downloaded onto my computer that picks out targeted words and makes it appear as if it is a hyperlink.

well I did find out what it is. It's called Top Text and it's a nasty little ad campaign by Ezula similar to Gator. Only this scans your page and anything that it is promoting that correlates to keywords on your page is made into a hyperlink that is visible on your screen. Fucksticks. Can't they make a living in a relatively honest way? I'm in the process of eliminating it now.

Probably Ezula:
http://www.cexx.org/toptext.htm This is what Kazaa.com installs when you download it.

well from what I found out it's not as easy as just running an uninstaller or grabbing it at the add/remove program level. There are a couple of components you have to remove at DOS level. By doing a search on your box you can look for stub.exe or ezstub.exe and go into dos to remove it. The ezulaboot.dll is the automatic installer portion of it. I didn't have the last part on my box but did have the ezstub.exe and wiped it out via DOS. I think i'm clean now.
