    Puerto Rico to make push to become 51st US state

    I am not necessarily against this, but there are a lot of concerns that could get in the way. They have a $120+ billion debt, an uneducated population and produce nothing of value. It would essentially be a welfare move for Puerto Rico, but what does the US get out of it?

    I think Puerto Rican statehood would be a better reality if tens of millions of illegal Mexicans and anchor children were not already in the US. We got absolutely nothing from that raw deal. At least with Puerto Rico we could have picked up more land.

              They are already partially part of US, so there wont be much change anyway. But being a part of US doesn't mean much, as we seen with Detroit.

                      They add no value and their own home country is a corrupt crime ridden gettho. I'd be all for removing our military base in exchange with sending them back home. At least the Mexicans usually go back home.. Puerto Ricans just spit out 3 kids to max out the tax return then collect welfare...

                                                              Hawaii is obvious value of being a military port/base deep in the Pacific. Now that I think about it, do we even have a military base in Puerto Rico?

                                                              edit.. ok so I looked it up.. we don't really have a "real" military base there. It's called a base but mostly just to support troops who are there training. ie they aren't giving us much of anything for value.. Might as well be Hatti..

                                                                  Yeah and before that they were protesting our involvement in their country.. Soon as they go bankrupt and need money, now they want to be a state.. Fuck them IMO, at least Mexicans get jobs..

                                                                  In 2016 Chicago had 762 murders..

                                                                  In 2014 (last year listed) Puerto Rico had 681 murders..

                                                                  So that would be a state, that is almost as bad as Chicago and they add zero value to any of us.. Just a place big business can expand to for corporate welfare. While our tax dollars would then get spent on their welfare.

                                                                      As a vacation destination PR is up there with Hawaii beautiful beaches, rainforest good fishing proximity to Virgin Islands (also DR and Haiti bad with the good ya know)

                                                                      But in reality it is all but a state now...PR gets a lot of tax dollars ....Dems will be for it cuz itd be two more democrats in the senate a few more in the house.

                                                                      As a tourist destination it would likely make it more expensive to go

                                                                      from a military standpoint its an advantageous position but in the world of long range warfare prolly not much plus we already have bases and FBI there among other stuff.

                                                                      It will be money sink, itll never be a profitable move for the USA as a whole but as I said dems will buy some positioning for sure. Soon as a hurricane demolishes San Juan USA will be on the hook for even more...Its just a majot Hurricane away from being a Haiti but the idea that it is currently a slum is wholly incorrect.

                                                                      Its kinda like that beach house that you like to rent and visit but its just too pricey to own
