Got the New Galaxy S8 plus today Love it!

Heads up while I'm training this new phone you'll probably see autocorrect errors in my posts for as bit.

I'm not a big phone person and after my Galaxy Note 4 died, after four years, I got a cheap LG G phone for couple hundred bucks until a new one came out that I knew I'd keep for a long time and the Galaxy S8 plus is it!

Super fast with an edge screen wih 4k video and a 2960 x 1440 pixel display on a 6.2 inch screen. Sweet! I'm waiting for the free 360 VR rmite control gear to arrive for pre-ordering can't wait

I have to say, the way this phone melts in your hand is so cool you don't even really realize you're holding the phone it's so light and it's so smooth very cool!

I LOVE this phone and the battery lasts forever! Only drawback so far is they want to track every single thing you do and see everything you type and analyze every image you take, its creepy, only drawback. Its like an obsessive girlfriend or somethings.

I am over due for a new phone. I still have the S5. I am not a huge phone person, although I am becoming one. In the past I was just a phone, text, and occasional email and Facebook person. Now I have two dozen apps I use daily (ironically, including Apple Music).

I have three Alexa dots in my house, set up my shopping list using them, and then used the APP while shopping. Neat.

I am holding out for a new Microsoft phone. I am a huge Microsoft Surface fan, and rumor is they are making a Surface Phone. However, I am getting tired of waiting.

It get's a lot creepier than that... but I'll save it for some other thread or a PM when you want to know more.

I use a android for mobile vr but iPhone for everyday use where I at least have a bit more explicit control of the resources. And don't have useless apps on them at all.
Battery will not last so long in vr. That is why it was resized heavily.

Why does a mobile phone need such a high resolution and such a big display? Mine is 5.5" and I think it's too big. 4" would be enough.

It's so you don't see the space between the pixels while using it for VR.
The headset adapter magnifies everything and the image is de-skewed from that magnification in software.
One large screen for watching anything though.

How long does your iPhone lasts w/o charge? Here is my Android (the message says: 3 days 1 hour 13 min 23 sec) and it still has 22%:

Course I'm not the one. But even if I'd never used it at all during those 3 days, it still hangs on cell network all the time and Android uses WiFi to check for updates and download them, check for new email, check for WhatsApp messages etc. The CPU and the WiFi/GSM/4G modules are always active.

Congrats on not being the total sheep (like those who buys sg6, then sg7, then sg8 etc). You wait for reasonable amount of time between phones.
Although, there is no point of spending that much for a phone as 50% priced ones would operate and do the same things as well.

That's a new demo for facebooks AR deployments coming this year.
Eye and face tracking. Whole bunch of new tech rolling out this year. Both exciting and creepy if you understand all that can be done with it.

I don't hardly play around and enjoy much anymore. Just research concepts. You'll be busy with it for about 40 hours before you start to get bored.
But if you have netflix, try watching a normal 2d movie with it.(or 3d if you can find one)
Super big screen you can watch on the couch in any position....LOL...

dude, I wish I could do that.. I have so much nerve damages in my hands I randomly drop stuff... every phone I have gets broken

It just depends on what you do with it.
How many resources you have turned on. Wi_FI, Bluetooth and if you are close to a tower where a good signal prevents it from stepping up to high power to maintain backchannel communications.

How much you use it with the screen being on.
Most shut it off while using it as a phone with it up to your ear, but not as speakerphone.
Many apps that folks install will talk in the background if you allow them, chewing up your battery. Google will not allow you to turn off many permissions that aid in their data collection efforts. That is what I like about Apple. Total explicit permissions.

Most all phones are 'close' to the same. It comes down to how much you know about how everything works and using them the best way for your needs.

I have went several times while away from home for 3 days.(forgot charger)
But at home, it gets a charge every night at bedtime.
After 4 years of heavy use, My iphone 5s still works as it did when it came out of the box.
I have other iphones, but that is my everyday phone.

"your mileage may vary" ...LOL... But data security is my priority.
