    Aaron Hernandez commits suicide in prison cell

    One of the strangest, saddest sagas in NFL history came to an end on Wednesday morning, as the Massachusetts Department of Corrections says Aaron Hernandez killed himself in his prison cell.

    The news comes just days after Hernandez was acquitted of a double murder. Hernandez was still serving a life sentence after being found guilty in the 2013 murder of Odin Lloyd.

    Hernandez was 27.

    In a statement, the Massachusetts Department of Corrections outlined the event:

    "On April 19, 2017, Aaron Hernandez was discovered hanged in his cell by corrections officers at the Souza Baranowski Correctional Center in Shirley, Massachusetts at approximately 3:05 a.m., lifesaving techniques were attempted on Mr. Hernandez and he was transported to UMASS Leominster where he was pronounced dead at 4:07 a.m. by a physician at the hospital.

    "Mr. Hernandez was in a single cell in a general population housing unit. Mr. Hernandez hanged himself utilizing a bed sheet that he attached to his cell window. Mr. Hernandez also attempted to block his door from the inside by jamming the door with various items. The Massachusetts State Police are on scene and the investigation continues. Mr. Hernandez's next of kin have been notified."

              In addition, Hernandez did not have drugs in his system when he was found naked hanging from a bedsheet in his prison cell, according to a death investigation from Massachusetts State Police and the Worcester County district attorney.

              Correction officers found Hernandez amid a gruesome scene, with drawings on the wall and "John 3:16" markings written in a substance consistent with blood, the investigation found.

              Hernandez was found dead at 3 a.m. when a correction officer noticed a sheet hanging in front of Hernandez's cell door and asked that he remove it or sound off, according to the report.

              The officer poked at the sheet and it fell, revealing Hernandez hanged from a sheet tied to the window bars. Hernandez had "pegged" the door to his cell by stuffing its tracks with cardboard, making entry difficult, the report states.

              The night of his death, Hernandez had placed a large amount of shampoo on the floor to his cell, making it very slippery, according to the investigation report. Ligature marks were visible on his neck, and there was discharge and vomit coming from his nose and mouth areas, the report states.

                          He had K2 in his system, synthetic marijuana. They reported his bible verses a few days ago. Some were on his forehead, some his chest, some on walls. His baby momma is still trying to sell his house for $1.3 million. The Boston papers still won't print stories of his bisexuality and his lawyer claims the note left for his lover isn't true; it was left for him. I'm sure books will be out soon and a movie, too, complete with recreration of his 'thoughts' before killing himself and saving the commonwealth lots of cash.
