    News Adidas -- 3D-printed shoes

    https://techcrunch.com/2017/04/07/ad...-within-sight/

The new version is better suited for mass production ? Adidas plans on selling 5,000 pairs this upcoming fall, which will scale up to more than 100,000 pairs by the end of 2018. While the company hasn?t announced the price, expect the first run to still be priced as a limited edition shoe. The first 3D runners retailed for $333, but sold secondhand for many times that.
The factories will be robotized and located?

They are ugly, and can you imagine trying to clean those things?

You are missing the point -- these shoes are machine printed -- made with very little human hand labor. The price and style are not really that material. The shoes can be made in developed countries.

Let me see if I understand this correctly
                1. So they outsourced production to the 3rd world and destroyed our jobs
                2. Now they're going to automate 3rd world factories and destroy their jobs too

Why doesn't this sit well with me?
officially retired as of March 01 2018 but still fucking around and getting into shit.

The material it is printed out of is not leather or cotton that make 99% of all footwear...Those 3d printed ones are basically Crocs...They are plastic...333$ Crocs...I don't see it creating too much jeeerbs...

Stop fixating on the shoes material or price.

Clothing is made of polymers and might be printed also. Synthetic fabric production is in for technological disruption.

Plastic shoes are not worth $333. But what is the material cost of production and the amortization rate of the machinery to do this -- scaled out?

I didn't think it would be possible to spray CHROME but they can do it now and you can buy a machine for just a little over $5000
